name the time travel film

Trying to remember the name of a film I saw years ago, probably in the 80s or very early 90s.

It's a time travel film where a man goes back in time to try and prevent his wife from dying. I think she was reversing out of her drive and a police chase crashes into the car. I think he went into the future and was involved in some sort of effort to save the world etc (I may be wrong on that part)



Any ideas?

Thinking last night, I reckon he had to invent a time machine so he could attempt to save her. Also, she may have been deaf and he watched her reverse but she couldn't hear him shouting and he couldn't get to her in time.
 
I thought it sounded like the time traveler's wife. But the film came out in 2009 apparently.

I do think i saw a film older than that though, where he drives a little bike/car thingy to go back in time. not too sure though.

As said below the time machine is a good shout. there is a 1960s version too.

Sounds like the 2002 remake of "The Time Machine".

Although his girlfriend is mugged not ran over.

yes well done!! I've been searching for ages. I couldn't remember anything about the Wild West but do remember him teaming up with a woman to fight some baddies. I reckon I was 10 when I saw it at my Grandpa's house on Sky.

new the film you were on about ;) i remember watching it with my parents ages ago
 
I watched it last night and it was quite entertaining. Sort of a cross between Quantum Leap and Back to the Future 3 (which came out after this).

If you don't mind films cut up into 8min chunks then have a watch on youtube.
