My peugeot 307 heater has been making a fairly loud noise in recent days and I think the power of the heater got weaker. Today, there's nothing, seems to be dead. :( Could it be something fixable?

Meanwhile, I was thinking of buying one of those 12v car heaters. I know they're not very good, but perhaps would give me some heat to take the edge off the current chill? Any particular one worth getting?

Maplins do this one http://www.maplin.co.uk/in-car-ceramic-heater-48775

Hi there,

That Maplin heater is so rubbish, words cannot describe how little heat you get out of it. Do not waste your time or money.

Kind Regards

Alec

Yeah I won't bother with that maplins heater.

My mechanic is coming round wednesday to take a look. He also first suggested the balance resistor. My worry is that the heater motor was making a louder noise before it died. I can't describe the noise, suffice to say it made me suspect that the heater would probably conk out. Does that noise suggest, as my mechanic suspects, that the motor is burned out or could it still be a symptom of the resistor?

I asked him about replacing the heater motor if necessary and he said it's a time consuming job because of all the things that need removing to get access to it, which would be quite expensive. How much should I expect to pay to replace it? Let's say, if he did it or if I went to one of those Halford autocentres?
