Hi guys,

can someone help me find a replacement cooler (preferably one that exhausts hot out out the pci slots - just realised this will not be possible due to the fixed PCI Slot/plate) for my ATI Radeon 5850 1GB because the stock cooler is RIDICULOUSLY loud at load and it is rather unbearable.

This is the current cooler,

Having trouble finding something on OCUK thats relatively cheap (around £30), but I understand that the fixings are similar/the same to the 4xxx series.

Any help with this greatly appreciated ! :D

There are plenty of older coolers that are likely to fit, the problem is more cooling the Vrms i think on the 5 series.

The Arctic Cooling Accelero Twin Turbo II PWM cooler is pretty good and compatible with your HD5850, unfortunately OCUK don't sell it, but if you do abit of searching it can be had for <£30.

Before you spend your hard earned cash on a cooler, do what I did. Replace the TIM with something decent and give the bearings on the fan a good grease (not WD40, not WD40, not WD40, not WD40).

The stock TIM is an awful spongy mess that was thick as a pancake on mine, changing that alone drops the temperatures a significant amount which also has the side effect of allowing the fan to run more slowly, which it will do more quietly now it has some proper grease on it (that is not WD40, because that is not and never will be grease).

This.^^^
I have the exact same HD5850, and i can barely hear mine.
If its clogged up with dust, it will get louder.
I also have a custom fan profile in MSI Afterburner.
Right now, with World of Tanks (game) open in background i have
fan speed 25%
Gpu usage 80%
temp 58.C
