This is the same trick that people have used many times before (that I actually forgotten how to do!).

- Connect your Windows Phone 7.5 device to your PC and load up Zune.

- go into your phone, and turn off any Data Services (I just turn flight mode on)

- Go into Zune, with your Phone connected to Zune, and go into the Settings tab, then phone tab, and find the update button.

- When you click on it, a loading bar should pop up. After which a message saying "Your phone is up to date!". to force the update, you need to time how long it takes to get to "Your phone is up to date".

- For instance, mine took 13 seconds, then about 7 seconds if I retried it. This part you need to click the update button, then around the 3/4 mark, dissconnect your Wifi.

- If this has worked, you should receive an "update now!" button, but make sure you reconnect to your network before clicking.

It should take too long to do, mine pretty much worked every time I did it. Just make sure your data is off on your phone, otherwise it wont work.

I thought all 7.5 phone had to connect to Zune anyway to update? Pretty sure you couldnt get it over the air. Updated my lumia 710 the other day and i didn't need to do anything special, just plugged it in and updated.

They're rolling it out, I still haven't had the update notification, so this (and a programme on windowsphone hacks can do the job).

though, 1/3 of the way through the update, it stops, restarts and doesn't let me update my phone to 7.8.

Never buying a Windows phone again, I've had so many problems with my 800 and replacements that I've lost faith in the OS.

This is what i did to get update, my phone is LG and at&t originaly

Enable the MFG application by going to the dialer and dialing ##634# then pressing call. LG Phone Problem and Solution
Launch the MFG application and enter 277634#*# when prompted for a password.
Select the Engineer Menu item.
Select the Other Setting menu item.
Select the Edit registry menu item.
Set the input boxes on this menu as follows:
Select ROOT_PATH: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
Input SUB_PATH: \System\Platform\DeviceTargetingInfo\
Input KEY: MobileOperator
Data Type: STRING
Select Query and write down the result for re-branding (just in case)
To debrand leave the input data field “000-88″, apply the changes.
Connect to Zune and check for updates.

I can't believe that neither of my WP7.5 phones have had an official update yet. It's pathetic.

HTC Radar.
Lumia 800.

It's no secret why I've not upgraded to a WP8 device, I don't feel like being an unsupported user... again.

If I didn't get my new 8x due to making my mozart screen look like a mosaik I would be mighty peed off too.

I put up with waiting on the copy and paste, put up with waiting for certain apps and put up with a phone that randomly crashes when it has to think too much.

In the end I had to download Navifirm, Nokia care suite and flash it. No other way was working. Had various problems with my 800, but the flash seemed to have worked!

Just tried the trick on the OP on a Lumia 610 I received today (for £45 new!), it forced an update but it wasn't WP7.8, so I'm guessing it's still being released. Nokia did say this month though so hopefully there won't be long to wait.

Not that it really matters, the phone is for my step-dad, but I'd quite like to see what the update brings.

Assuming your 610 came with Tango on it, using the OPs method requires you do this 3 times for 3 updates, the last one being the 7.8 update, I know I had to force the update using that method for all three anyway...

I'd hang on a while, wmpoweruser and wpcentral are running articles on broken live tiles in 7.8, not updating or draining the battery. Personally I haven't seen any of these issues but you may want to have a read before committing to 7.8...

J.

You just have to keep forcing the updates through. I did it three times I think for my old Omnia 7 before it rolled round to the Windows 7.8 update.

updated my lumia 900 to 7.8 today using the zune method. Slightly convoluted as I was running zune on a VM under Fusion. Still it worked nicely & only took about 30mins to do.
