put your finger on the fan to stop it just to make sure it's the gpu, but if mine sounded like that I'd return it. That's really bad!

Hows that going to help coil whine it dont sound like the fan bearing, bushes to me it sounds exactly like the coil whine I have but in my PSU
Hello,
My Sapphire 7870 XT is 2 hours old at the time of making this post. Upon first boot, and running my first game (Mass Effect 2) -
I get this noise coming from my card -All Drivers are installed at this point using AMD Catalyst.
Is this a known problem ? it makes playing games more or less unbearable.
Should i post in Customer Support ? or am i just being a whiny nerd....
Cheers!
It doesn't help, it's to ascertain whether it's the fan or the coils that are making the sound.
rma it, its caused by poor quality components / power design.
I made a thread about this a few days ago concerning my 7970. Sounded just like yours and made gaming unbearable. Unfortunately for me mine was just a couple of days too old to return it under DSR so I was naughty and bought another from the same shop and returned my noisy 7970 using the receipt from my new onemorals.....
As for yours I'd return that under DSR straight away, though coil whine does seem to be an issue with the 7 series cards just some are worse than others
This.
People often blame the PSU but fact is if you threw a GTX680 there would be no whining.
There's no way that thing is coming into my computer when i rebuild it later today...
