I am currently doing an OU degree part time and I am thinking of quitting my job and doing it full time.

Any one here have any experience of this?

Thanks

I have ways and means of supporting myself I just wanted to know if anyone had done this before, I can support myself so thats not what Im asking.

Nope, I haven't. But if you've got the cash to support yourself, make sure that you go back into a job which is in some way related to your degree when you get back into work. Otherwise it will look really awkward on your CV.

Okay.

Well I'm currently doing 60 credits every six months plus I'm working ~ +20 hours a week, which is a nice middle ground. It means that I will complete my degree within three years.

Why do you want to do an OU degree without working, it's sort of the point of it?

I hate my current job and the degree I am doing is nothing to do with my current job at all. I want to get the degree done as quick as possible as I am desperate for the new challenge it will bring me.

Ha, I know that feeling! I'm doing a BSc in computing and IT while working in retail. -_-

What I plan to do is wait until I've completed a few more modules, then start applying for positions in my field.

I can empathise with your situation! I use my crap job as drive! If i'm having a terrible day I just think to myself "only a few more hours, then I can bury myself in study".

For me its a bit harder I doing a BSC in Sport Fitness and Coaching and want to go into teaching PE in secondary school, I currently work in business sales and its dull

I'm currently working on a BA Business Studies.
Completed my 120 points at Level 1. Completed the 60 at Level 2 with the second 60pts coming to an end shortly.
So just the 2x 60pts Level 3 modules to go.
Hard work - yes. Would it be easier if I didn't have to work and could do it full time? Hell yes.
But with a family, mortgage - never gonna happen.

Wow that sounds like allot

I'm looking at open university course, particularly the Natural Sciences one. I'm the same as you guys, I hate my job and not need a change.

What was the entry process like for you guys? Interviews and whatnot, were they required? And how do you guys pay for it, by loan?

What are you studying with OU?
im doing economics and maths with them at the moment and looked at doing the same thing, but found i couldn't get maintenace loans which were going to be essential to support myself.
They said i wasn't eligible as it is technically a part time course, even if you do 120 credits a year (or as i asked 180)

No interviews or anything like that, i just applied for student finance as anyone else would and thats about it really, just give them a call.

Don't you need a PGCE as well if you want to teach in a secondary school? The degree isn't enough.
