***The Official Sony Xperia Z Thread ***

And a few months after that better options then those phones as well.
I dont bother waiting. I just get whats available at the time. If i was to wait for the next best thing all the time i dont think id actually have a phone in my possession. :D

I'd normally agree, but the new phones are literally on the verge of release, and it's not like the current set of 1080p phones are flawless; if they were it wouldn't be such an issue.

If for example the Galaxy S IV is awesome and available in April, it wouldn't be bettered (by Android at least) until most likely the end of the year with the new Nexus phone - if there is one.

It could turn out to be fairly naff and you might get the Xperia Z anyway, but I'd think that for most people it's smart to wait. History would suggest the Samsung will be better.

From gsmarena's review:

Still, the Oppo Find 5 will retail for $500 (16GB) / $570 (32GB), which is less than many 16GB smartphones go for.

Having a quick google at the shop part and it comes up as £366 here:

Never heard of that site though (and it is preorder only for now :p)......

Here's hoping that good etailers get it up for sale around the £350 mark! :D :p

Watched that video review, which jabbs posted and the guy seemed very very pleased with the feel/build compared to every android phone and even the iphone 5

He also mentioned something about support/updates, supposedly they are very dedicated to providing updates, will have to wait and see.

tbh... if this phone does come in at under £400 and is marketed well it could be very popular and hopefully will get a very large following at XDA.

I think it looks like a superb phone overall and would be extremely tempted if the price was around £350, just a shame the camera isn't a bit better though and plus being......white, nothing that a bit of spray paint won't sort out though :p :D

And yup, the next lot of phones are literally just around the corner, February the 19th for the announcement of the HTC one and then April for the GS 4 and a bit further...... May for the X phone. After that there will be more new phones, however, they aren't going to be much better than the current lot (probably just slightly improved versions of the ones coming out like a slightly bigger battery and more internal storage) and there won't be anything, which will beat them by "a lot" until this time next year.

Saying that, if you aren't overly fussed on having the best possible camera and viewing angles/slightly washed out colours aren't an issue, you can't go wrong with the Z, top end CPU/GPU, good battery life, nice design etc.

Dont disagree spec wise it will probably be better. I doubt it will be build quality wise which for me personally is more important. Having owned an S2 and S3 i find them horrible. They should have vtech plastered along the back.

The company said earlier that it would try to bring the natty looking model to North America, Europe and elsewhere soon afterwards

As to if they will actually release it in the UK, no idea :p :( Will probably depend on how well it does in the USA

Can't see it being sold via networks though, probably just online by the likes of amazon, expansys etc.

You can import it from ebay though for around £400.

Yes, I wouldn't put any money on the design being anything flash. :p :(

There isn't a 'Perfect Phone' as its subjective to the user. I can bet the SGS4 will be an amazing spec and won't be bettered until later this year or early 2014. The Xperia Z spec is great and will easily last me until i decide to change it for something else ~12 months down the line.

I'm buying on what phone i like the look off, it so happens its also a pretty good all rounder (Xperia Z) The SGS4 have its 8 cores but it will look like a pebble and feel like a fisher price toy.

It might, but you don't know that. They might switch up the design and it might look better.

It might be better than the Xperia Z in almost all areas... you just don't know.

What I do know is, we usually arrive at this point every year with Sony having the first phone out, and a few people tend to get it, only for it to be bettered by the HTC/Samsung equivalent.

True to a point and i get the point your making.

Sony haven't put a phone out as good as this one (duh?), a great spec and good looks to boot, in the past they had been pretty good phones but just that, pretty good and easily beatable.

I struggle to see what the SGS4 can bring that will make me think ****! should have waited! Oh, i'm under no illusions that if i prefer the SGS4 i will buy it but right now i think there's a 20% chance of that happening, it will be ugly!

I agree, if you are happy with all aspects of the Xperia Z then I don't think any coming phones will cause you to massively regret the decision at all, but waiting is quite arguably the intelligent move. That doesn't mean you have to wait - I often don't. :p

I'm just ensuring people are aware of the situation!

I mean HTC's phone is being announced next week, what's making you skip that?

I also hate waiting and although i could wait until the SGS4 i simply don't want to.

I've planned it so if i dislike the Z or decide i'd like a different phone yet to be released that i could and not lose out, with the sale of the Z and the headphones i'd have enough to buy any of the next gen phones and be at very little loss. I also have the additional buffer of the sale of my current SGS3.

I'm not a fan of HTC TBH, don't like Sense or their designs so i'm not eager to see what they offer, although i could be wowed its unlikely:D

Sarge that wouldn't make me think i should have waited, the battery life would be shocking for one!

Eh?

HTC are quick and far far quicker than sony! They have the most handsets with JB so far (only including the ones that they have provided the updates for, not released phones with JB), one S (around the 25th December), one X (around a month or two before the one s), one XL etc.

Samsung have only just started providing the update to their second phone i.e. the GS 2 (and a lot of people still haven't got it yet), only phone that got provided the update was the normal GS 3, iirc the note II and GS 3 LTE shipped with JB.

Sony haven't provided any updates at all, they have "just" started the roll-out process for 3 phones (xperia T, TX and V) and usually it takes a week or more for that update to hit the phones.

Motorola provided their 3 razr phones (in the USA) the JB update around xmas time iirc.

But yes they are much better when it comes to the community, however, iirc their phones don't have a large gathering at XDA? I suspect that the Z will be pretty popular though.

EDIT:

On a side note, it is a joke the way these new phones aren't coming out with 4.2, a basic update with like 5 new features yet still no comment on it from any oem and new phones are still coming out with 4.1.1/4.1.2......... :o

I'm talking about kernal sources which all the other manufacturers are notorious for not releasing for long periods of time, usually the first time devs get sources with other manufacturers is after an actual release of an update. Sony recently have been releasing sources well ahead of anyone else.

Like I said they can be slow on official updates but their supporting of the rom community has been fantastic lately.
