With the delay of the 8000's series, I feel my 6990 is starting to show its age, struggles in Crysis 3 and more is always better in other games, so while I can still get around £300 I was wondering whether to put another £300 to and go CF 7970's or maybe an nvidia route?
Any-one else in the same boat with the 6990?

6990 showing it's age? isn't it at least ghz 7970 performance? up to you obviously but if i were in your shoes i would really wait, unless you're playing in eyefinity or something.

I've got a 6990. If I could get £300 for it then I would go 7970 CF but since I haven't ever sold any of my old kit (seems like too much hassle) I'll probably just wait.

If it's at 1080p, then most tittles have the same settings/playability in comparison with 2 6950>70's@950MHz v's the gpu's in my sig@1100MHz.

Although it may differ with the newer SD's/FC3/HAB shader intensive titles.

BF3 for example went from about ~80fps mins to about ~100fps mins, so it was a hefty amount of cash for the extra 20fps mins.

C3 only performed well for me with the beta5, it doubled the fps and made it playable everything maxed except motion blur on low@~60fps.

Yes I game at 1080p, so theres no difference in performance between CF6970's (6990) to CF7970's? The latest 3D mark would say otherwise, and FC3 was a little slow in places. C3 beta5 struggled around 30FPS with 4Xmsaa and everything else on full not that playable.
Shader intensive title are where the futures at.... :)

C3 maybe doesn't have any optimisations yet on the 69's, pretty sure AMD will be concentrating/prioritising on the 7 series, maybe on release there will be performance increase for the 69's, but all the above it's guesswork on my behalf.

3Dmark is a bench, it's not a game remember taking advantage of the gcn power(most games don't), it's not really what's going to be in titles in the foreseable future.

I just feel the scaling is held back due to 1080p res, as they don't really utilise in most titles@1080p.

If your changing because of an itch, then try hold on some more for the next gen or titan if you can't wait that long, I think you would feel more of an upgrade tbh, unless your one of these-'I can tell the difference between 60-80fps without a counter' type of player.:)
