Hi all

I have an HAF 932 with a Seasonic X series 850W power supply (fan kicks in only when needed).

The HAF has 3x230mm fans rated at 19db and a rear 140mm rated at 17db.

I wanted to add a 120mm at the bottom to feed air in to my Xfire 7950's so a little research found the BitFenix spectre pro (non LED or pwm) for a tenner and 18.9db. Perfect I thought.

Fitted it to the case and holy moley its loud, it drowns out all other fans except the 7950's when they get to 50% fan! Surely thats not right, it should be no louder than the stock HAF fans?

Is it a faulty fan, or are these noisy? I'm not happy with this one so whether to RMA and get another replacement, or go for something else altogether - what better options are there?

Thanks

Im going to say its not faulty.

Ive had a few of the bitfenix spectre fans before and all of them seemed to be louder than their supposed rated noise level.

I would recommend these fans. Get the high RPM/performance ones if you have a controller or control fan speed using software/bios

YOUR BASKET
1 x Scythe Gentle Typhoon 120mm 1850 RPM - 3 Pin £14.98
1 x Corsair AF120 Quiet Edition Low Noise High Airflow - Single Pack £13.99
1 x Corsair AF120 Performance Series Low Noise High Airflow - Single Pack £13.99
1 x Scythe Gentle Typhoon 120mm 1150 RPM - 3 Pin £12.98
Total : £61.92 (includes shipping : £4.98).

These are at least fairly truthful to their noise level and air flow, which is more than i can say for a lot of fans out there.

Hmm not sure they are all very high db. I want something no louder than the 19db rated fans already in my HAF 932....

Any other suggestions, particularly with experience of the fans too?

Remove the fan, then plug it in outside the case and listen to it. Not saying its your problem but a lot of cases of "this fan is noisier than expected" is down to the noise of the airflow passing through a rad or case grill, more airflow = more noise.
