my current gpu isnt very quiet at load. its a sapphire dual x (the picture on the website showed reference)

what is the best brand to go for for a quiet at load cooling solution?

Its in a HTPC case

My MSI twin frz 3 OC is very quiet! Great temps too, 31-38 degrees at idle and doesn't go over 60 degrees at load and this is with 2 monitors connected, which usually bump the temps up by a bit.

i have an msi in my main pc and although very quiet the 7850 version seems very expensive!

ill look at the gigabyte

Why hasn't anyone suggested you create a custom fan profile then ? rather than another gpu which will give you the same problem. As its in a htpc if its very compact with little airflow then its going to run hotter hence you had the same problem with your 6950.
The 7850 sapphire x is very quiet in operation and has a great cooler. You'll probably find the gigabyte won't work properly as tend to be unstable or poorly built.

So the dual x is actually quite a quiet cooler?

Maybe i do need a rear exhaust. I think my reference 6950 was quieter

Stupid idea time

Get a rear exhaust and make a tube from fan to the vent in top of the case

Laugh me out if necessary

Could also consider buying one of arctic acceleros coolers but it would mean adding it yourself. If i was on a budget, id probably create a custom profile if that was a possibility.

Impressive cooler. But I fear too much risk! Could easily end up with a dead card and useless cooler! It looks a tricky job anyway

I have a Sapphire 7850 and can't hear it at all, even under load.

I think generally dual fans are not "that" loud in comparison to what some GPUs have been in the past.

One of the reasons why i got the ASUS, i dont like messing around with stuff incase i bork it lol.

The ASUS card looks quality, its big and chunky and looks very nice compare to the other cards that show the PCB and ****, the backplate is very nice.

Tbh, i think you have more chance damaging your ram placing it in the motherboard than you do adding an aftermarket cooler to a gpu. I added an arctic passive heatsink to a 9600gt a couple years back and it was a fairly simple affair. JUst took my time. Yes, easy is a relative term but i really am an average joe when it comes to this kind of stuff lol.
