Hi

I'm thinking of going CF again though the top slot of my MB has a hard time working with the one card I have now.

Is the above the norm where CF will work though one card might not.

Last time I had CF I'm pretty sure it was the same concept but can not be 100% on that.

I'll also like to ask if 7970s in CF will improve FPS and graphics in games.

Thank You
DX

Usually the top slot on the card is 16 and the other is 8. So there is no reason why the 16 should be worse.
Not tried cf but there is no reason why this wouldn't work. You will get better fps than you currently have

He is saying if his single card wont work in top slot because the slot is faulty would adding a second make it work? I'm sorry but how would that work exactly? Crossfire isnt a fix for a faulty motherboard, if anything it would give him more problems.

OK first thing I'm not a troll and I don't like being called one to be ***ting honest.

I hear yer Oldestgregg the main reason I asked was to make sure before paying the money for a new card then sending back was it worth the hassel.

Cheers

You see what I mean though mate dont you? I wasnt being funny (well...much) its just if your motherboard is broken then adding another GPU wont fix it. Add to that the increased chance of problems with crossfire I just cant see how it would make sense. A point about fps though, yes it would increase them and by being able to increase settings ,the graphics would increase as well. Sorry if you took offence it just seemed like trolling. When I saw the 200+ posts on your profile as well......:)

p.s props on the word ****ing as well.....just dont hear that enough :p

I have honestly no idea what your question is mate. It would be completely counter-intuitive for a CrossFire setup to work in a given motherboard, but for that same motherboard to refuse to work properly with just one graphics card in there. If this is your case then I would RMA the motherboard, before thinking about buying another graphics card.

Or maybe I've mis-understood your post/question? If so please rephrase (perhaps this time with an actual question mark at the end of your question and minimal use of idioms, acronyms and the like).

Yes it will drive higher FPS though the extent of the FPS gain varies from game to game. It will not 'improve your graphics' unless you turn up the settings.

Also, higher FPS will not necessarily mean increased smoothness. I bought a second 7970 and am experiencing horrible, shameful, inexcusable microstutter. 175fps with 2 cards feels no smoother than 75fps on 1 card. So I'm selling the second card and sticking to single-GPU solutions

You tried RadeonPro before you sold your 2nd card? Dynamic vsync gets rid of MS for me. I also found 3rd party apps like D3D overider did the trick as well.

^Yes I have and no it does not give smoothness on anything like the same level I have with just a single-GPU setup. It can improve it, yes, but not to a level I find acceptable. Oh and I found that the framerate limiter (with forced triple buffering) worked far better than the dynamic vsync function.

Haven't actually sold the 2nd card yet but working on it.

I know what your saying mate. I wish I could help because mine is really smooth. My first xfire setup I had as problem that caused MS and it actually turned out to be CCC did not like running at same time as Afterburner.

^Yeah don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that it affects everyone's system (or eyes) but for whatever reason I am one addition to the statistics, so I feel obliged to warn prospective Crossfire folks to think very carefully before jumping in.

Glad to hear that you find it smooth. I'm jelly
