A man believed to be a former Los Angeles police officer accused of three murders has been involved in a shoot-out with police, reports say.

The fugitive exchanged shots with officers in California's Big Bear Lake region, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Two officers are reported to have been wounded by gunfire.

Christopher Dorner, 33, has been on the run since last week, after the murders in southern California.

He had sworn revenge on police officers he blamed for his sacking in 2008.

US television networks showed police and vehicles surrounding a cabin in a rural area outside Big Bear - a ski resort in the San Bernadino mountains - but it was not clear if Mr Dorner was inside.

Police were alerted after Mr Dorner reportedly broke into a house and tied up two people before making off in a stolen vehicle.

The search moved to the Big Bear Lake area, 80 miles (130km) east of Los Angeles, after the suspect's burned-out truck was found there last Thursday.

LA officials have offered a $1m (£630,000) reward for information leading to his arrest.

He's basically holed up in a cabin, shooting at the police. Nutter.

If the updates from the radio scanners a few reddit users are listening to;

Then it sounds like two officers down/injured and a possible car jacking?

Yeah I think that has been reported on the news.

Watching this roadblock in action is crazy! Brave media folk.

The biggest mistake Dorner made was to go after the families of LAPD officers rather than confining his target selection to serving officers only.

I'd have to argue his biggest mistake was killing anyone at all. :D
