Thanks EliotG, I've decided to take a punt on this then and have ordered one online. Havent even seen one in the shops so hopefully I like it as much as you lot and the reviewers. If it doesnt work on my giffgaff sim that's £120 please :p
 
Too wet to go out so I ordered it online, got a text saying it'll be delivered tomorrow which is pretty good considering I live in Northern Ireland.
 
It is locked to O2 yes but *should* work with Tesco and giffgaff SIMs as they are on the same network.

So long as you can look past the intermittent touch screen issues I think you'll love it. I'm sure they'll be a fix for it soon.

I don't know why but I haven't been able to put mine down. Been listening to mix radio all day. I just love how it feels in the hand compared to all these huge 4.0"+ devices.

EDIT: Btw, if any of you guys find anything wrong let me know and if I can reproduce it then I'll report it.

Probably because you don't get to choose the music specifically, that and you can only skip 5 times an hour. I dunno, it's awesome any way.

They are introducing music+ soon as well. ~£3 a month and you get unlimited skips, higher quality and other features. I'm all for it.

Just taken a second one out of the box and it has the same audio hissing issue.

With the speaker a normal level say 16. Lock the screen and unlock it.

Each time it makes a noise to unlock or lock there is a hissing noise after it makes the actual noise.

Same can be heard throughout the phone, with ring tones etc.

It sounds like background noise.

Is this through the phone speaker or the headphone port?

this is normal.. its either the audio file it plays has a bit of "silence" in it where it still keeps the speaker on but audio is not coming out or the speakers simply doesn't switch off - so when the audio is playing it plays it perfectly fine yet when it stops it hisses a bit and then switches off :) ive noticed this a lot on many different audio devices
 
Yea ive noticed that, sometimes you get it just from the power coming on, I always assumed it was some mad battery saving thing that it deactivated the sound hardware entirely, and as you do anything to "power it on" you get the "hiss", I guess separating what audio quality we have in phone compared to a stand alone player of 3 times the price!

Speaker only, headphones are fine.

My Lumia 800 never did this.

Also hard to say 100% but I think its hissing the whole time when you play music or watch YouTube via the speaker. Turn a video quite low volume to hear the hiss.

Perhaps I'm expecting too much from the speaker.

Nah that doesn't sound right, im a bit of an audio freak and never had a real problem with my 800/920 unless they decided to really use a nasty speaker in it, but all reviews never mentioned anything about it. Seems a few people are buying them up so maybe wait and see what they say?
 
I've only ever heard a slight (very slight) hiss through the headphone port, and you only notice it because it doesn't keep the line 'active'. If it senses silence, it will switch it off.

I don't hear it through the speaker. Maybe I haven't listened hard enough, but I don't hear it.
 
I have a hissing sound on my lumia 920 when i lock the phone, its just the lock sound file playing i wouldn't say its an issue, just normal speaker noise. Like when you turn normal speakers on you can hear they are on even with no sound playing.
 
Got this handset in the recent O2 promotion and it's a great little phone - superb as a backup. Just ordered a Yellow shell, now time to mess around with WP8.
