Afternoon,

I am mulling over downsizing my box to a Prodigy, as I love the small form factor. I am a little confused though as to what motherboard to use?

Can I use a Micro-ATX in a Prodigy, or do I have to stick with Mini-ITX? The small form factor is something I have never looked at previously. I am under the impression from reading around that Micro is better than Mini?

I am on a relatively strict budget, and am only planing on staying with a mid-range gaming rig, so am planning on keeping my Phenom 965 for a little while longer, but then may upgrade to one of the new FX chips at some point.

I am also looking to upgrade my 5870 to a 7850 and possibly changing my 5 year old Corsair TX 750 PSU to something newer, smaller and more efficient. I am on a budget but will never skimp on the PSU so may well get a Seasonic with around 550w.

For the record I also have 2x SSD's and 2x mechanical drives, though will probably get a bigger mech drive instead of the two. I also have a PCI soundcard. Also keeping the RAM.

Would do you chaps suggest?

none sold here anyway

Sapphire 52031-01-40R IPC-AM3DD785G Mini-ITX Socket-AM3 Motherboard

ASUS M4A88T-I Deluxe - motherboard - mini ITX - Socket AM3 - AMD 880G - Socket AM3

and that's if you can find it or buy it. there is some more thats been made but if you can get hold of one is another thing, im guessing they will be rare and over priced

ask in here and see if they will stock it or can get it for you, but guess it will be no as i bet it's a one off and rare or very hard to find board it seems

Don't think there any AM3 mobo's which are mini-itx.

That is what I thought. It just seems a little odd. I suppose I will have to look at a Micro-ATX case.

it just seems odd when Micro-ATX boards look far superior to Mini, but cases like the Prodigy are desinged for Mini only.

someone posted this but if you google mitx am3+ motherboards one of the links is to a sapphire board that is mitx, the prodigy you can fit in a gpu but thats it usually there is only 1 pci slot i think the shuttleboards have 2 ut they are intel and not amd

try zotac 890GXITX-B-E mini-itx, Socket AM3 Up to 140-watt TDP, USB 3.0, WiFi 802.11n... i think is the best AM3 mini-itx mobo available at this moment. sadly no AM3+ mini-itx mobos at this moment.
