Hi i have a H100i and the fans that it comes with are just like the sp120 but cheaper version but have a whine noise thats doing my head in.

So can any one wo has the sp120 quiet edition do they all so have a bearing whine noise?

I not running then with the built in fan controller am using bitfenix recon.

Kyle

Avoid, they make a horrible noise. Get some gentle Typhoons instead. Either 1450 or 1850 versions.

Yet my SP120s are perfectly quiet and running under PWM (around 1000rpm for the most part)

Kyle - I'm also running a H100i. I'm using SP120 Performance editions. I've got mine running from my CPU PWM output via one of Tealc's PWM > DC converters and the work fine. The only noise is when PWM, according with my PWM preset curve, kicks into high gear and begins to take fan speeds about 1500 and upto 2300. Generally, even under a bit of MMORPG play I don't hear the fans getting much louder than they are at idle and the case is on my desk 18 inches from me.

I suspect that quiet editions, by their very name, will be much quieter and will run from your Recon just fine.

Hope that's been of some help to you and in future just ignore the pot-shot posters who come in and post "no it's/they're crap" with very little or no other substance to their posts.

Thanks for the reply on your sp120 fans is there a whine noise from the fans like the one that come with the h100i at round 1100 rpm? and because I get a recon fan controller what would really be the best to get out sp120 quiet edition or performance ones as I can just lower the rpm from the controller but still wont good air pressure for the rad to cool.

Yes i have the full speed versions 2350 rpm however i have the recon fan controller and can make these full speed ones run at the queit sp120 fan speeds. They quiet fans are ok, but their cooling performance is not as good as the GT's. I had to run them much faster to get better temps and with these fans its the worst fan noise ive ever heard. Above 1400rpm they were loud, and make a horrible whine. The problem is at low speed they don't cool as well as the GT's. Up to you, but ive used both and the GT are much better and quieter and produce a quiet case fan type noise at full speed.

You can listen to Mr Know it all hot shot poster above Lol, or you can listen to me who's used both fans on a bitfenix recon controller with a H80i. Your choice mate. :)

I have the H100i and bought the SP120 Quiet fans with it.
Running full speed at around 1300-1400rpm they are near silent, no grinding noise or otherwise, and can keep a 3930K @ 4.6GHz under 80c on IBT.

I had look at the gt review and a lot peple do seem to rate the gt fans. Theres a nice sp120 vs the 1850 gt and both seem to cool same at 1850rpm but the gt deffo not as loud as sp120.

I am using the h100i fans at mo and set rpm to 1100 and they cool ok when gaming on mmos never seem to go over 55-60c and under prime bout 70c ish thats i7 960 @4.2 HT On if turn HT off and temp dont lower.

I do love the look of the corsair but dont wont ro much noise i even tryed two bitfenix spec pro fans but they loud on a h100i at same speed 1100 at the standed h100i fans and dont cool as good aswell.

70ish is more than fine for the i7 960 by the way.
I ran my 920 (bought on release) at just under 85c in Prime95. It was fine for 4 years (obviously not fully loaded for 4 years straight :p).

So if you're getting those temperatures at 1100RPM then just get the SP120 Quiet or GT1450 fans and have done with it.

If you have a fan controller get the 1850 GT's, that way you can have them faster if you need more performance but have them quieter if needed. I had to run my SP120 at 2350RPM to get the same cooling performance from the 1850 GT's. The noise difference was unbelievable.

They are fine at or below 1450 speeds but their performance as this speed is vastly inferior to GT's. 1450.

No whine at any speed tbh. Yes they get noisey when on full speed but that's the air being pushed through them rather than the fan mechanism.

As for lowering the fan speed and lower static pressure. As you know I have the performance edition. I probably don't need them tbh. At the moment the ambient temp in my room is around 23°c and my CPU temp with the fans running around 1000rpm is 27°c.

Edit: Remembered I have these, they might be of use to you:
