Removing points from license

I've got a DR10 and CU50 to remove from my license. I understand that the DR10 takes 11 years to come off, and by then the CU50 will be ready to come off as well. It's going to be november this year when 11 years has passed.

Will DVLA remove them both for the £20 fee, or will i have to pay £40

i didn't realise the DR10 stayed on for 11 years. i thought it was eiher 3 or 4 years?

Do you have to take the points off?

I mean does it go against you having old expired points on license ?

Just leave them and get a fresh clean licence when you have to update your photo

I sent mine back once to have points removed and they literally just got a ruler and drew a line through them rather than giving me a clean license but if you have a photo change or change of address they have to reprint it

Good thinking gents. I never thought it was possible to just update a pic. Thing is, the points are on the counterpart and not the card, so will they send a new counterpart with a new card if i go the updated photo route?

Yes, you will be applying for a full new license (well, a full update). I got two new parts at least

Nope drink driving and careless/dangerous driving last much longer.

Up to 5 years for insurance purposes but license wise, 11 years. My DR20 is the same.

What is the difference between a DR10 and a DR20? Google isnt clear. Everyone i have known to be caught drink driving, has received a DR10 code.

I'm unsure and when I went on my course the ex traffic policeman who led it couldn't understand either. They usually use that one when you haven't given a sample he said. But I had done and even have the print out with my signature on it.

I was not caught in the car however. Was a bit different how I ended up in the position I did to just getting pulled over or having an accident whilst bladdered. But I had clearly driven despite not remembering a thing so I freely admitted that and took it on the chin.

why do you have to update your counterpart? isn't it updated electronically? Or would the points get stacked onto expired points if you don't get it renewed? archaic system if you ask me.

This is an easy one. There are two separate offences when dealing with drink driving: s4 RTA is Driving whilst unfit through drink or drugs (DR20) and s5 is driving whilst over the prescribed limit (DR10). s5 requires a sample to be taken and on analysis for it to be over the legal limit.

However, there are times when someone is so drunk that they are unable to give a sample or understand what is going on. When this is the case the officer will provide evidence that the suspect is unfit to drive, sometimes just a statement, sometimes through the use of a sobriety test. There will need to be some evidence that actual driving has been impaired. This is why a S4 offence is preferred as it is easier to prove.

I'm surprised an ex-traffic officer didn't know that.

I misread your post, I think this ultimately may be a simple mistake.

Before some smart a$$ makes comment, i am not suggesting you move home to update your licence! However, if in sometime during those 11 years you HAVE moved addresses it is free to change your licence and it will come back with the points removed to ie same scenario as updating your photo.

But either way it is one fee of £20 to remove points spent.

I thought the same last night. Car tax is electronic so why not the license. I need to fill the D1 form which i've applied for, then post it back when the time comes. My CU50 has already expired 6months ago, but i'm a tight arse and will wait and get them both removed at the same time. Will definitely be giving the photo update method a try.

Finally. A clean license

Big lesson learned. I was just over the limit. Blew 42 on the machine back at the station. It went to blood test and i was banned for 12 months, but took a course and got 3 months reduction.

If you really want it changed, 'move' to your mum's address then 'move' back. Not sure about the legality of this though.
