Car Dealers - Atrocious Service!

Don't get me started...

This car dealer managed to get my details out of me. Now he will NOT stop harrassing us! To the point where I've called my mobile network to ask them to block his number... they can't.

Today after 10 missed calls from this douchebag, I picked up the phone and he started pressuring me again... I told him to please not call us again as we will call him when we've made a decision. The conversation then lead on like this:

"Please don't call us, we'll call you. We understand we can have a car from your showroom within 2 weeks, but it's a 4 month wait for the car with all the options we really want, so we need to think about it."

"Well what options do you want on the car sir?"

"All of them"

"Which ones would those be sir?"

"err... ALL of them. Fully Loaded."

"Which ones would those be sir?"

"er- you want me to read off all the 25 specs from the VW website to you? We want all of them! I don't remember off-hand."

"Which ones would you want sir?"

"Don't you know them?!"

"Yes I do. Which ones would you want sir?

"All of them!"

"Which ones would those be sir?"

"[sigh].. ok, please wait while I load up volkswagen.co.uk .... [I start reading off all the options to him, patiently]..."

[he gets bored quickly and interrupts me] "ok sir, well there's a 4 month wait for cars from the factory anyway."

"Yes I know! You were just asking me which options we want installed."

"Just when you decide let me know."

:mad::mad::mad:

I sold new cars for 13 years for a large dealer group.

Nobody ever ordered "all of them," including the dealers so an "all of them" vehicle will be a factory order, so the salesman probably has you clocked as a timewaster, and maybe its the dealership joke of the week to wind you up.

Not saying that ever happened at my dealership though....:D

I've heard of many people buying fully loaded cars... if dealers treat people as a joke who order cars they aren't used to, how is that any use...

just arrange to go in and see him next Friday. Then don't show up. Keeps him off your back for a week at a time. Maybe ask him to send you some brochures so you can look at the different colour trims.

He already accused me of booking an appointment and not turning up, in a very aggressive tone - when I never did anything of the sort.

From the salesmans point of view, you are "interested" in a what I assume is the top of the line VW, and you want "all of them" when it comes to the options, but you won't buy on the basis that your special requirements means the car has to be factory built....

As a car salesman (especially with the marque brands) you bump into a lot of dreamers who just want to waste their afternoon driving cars and usually they dream up some extravagant story to try to justify to the salesman why they should waste their time and earning potential on them.

Now I'm sure the guy dealt with you professionally, some salesmen actually get a bonus if they test drive enough customers a week, but genuine customers wanting thousands of pounds of "fully loaded" options without knowing what they actually are simply don't exist and suggests you haven't really researched your purchase as you have no intention of actually purchasing.... The excuse you wanted to think about it because your "fully loaded" car needed factory ordering made me groan a little TBH.

Like I said, after 13 years in the business I never had a customer order "all of them..." The successful salesman treats every customer the same, because sometimes even the most difficult customer will surprise you and order something but you do get to be pretty accurate with who's pulling your plonker and who isn't....

If you don't want him to ring you again and have no intention of buying there just be honest and say you were only killing time and fancied a drive in a nice VW but thats as far as it goes.... The salesman will soon move on, failing that just tell him you've ordered elsewhere.

I remember when I worked for Toyota and a guy purchased a used celica, he looked like a tramp, turned up with £18000 in cash in carrier bags to pay for it.
Was always told never to judge a book by its cover.
If you are serious about buying then get on with it, if not tell the salesman to go away.

That must have been a while ago, dealers haven't been able to accept that amount of cash for one transaction for a while!

I've had to refuse a few sales to dodgy geezers because of it.... But yeah a good salesman should treat everyone one the same even if he doubts the punters intentions....

Large dealers now a days send their staff on intense body language training and all sorts... I spent a week being taught the intricasies of the human involuntary movement.

We are considering both a fully loaded which would cost more and take longer, vs. a cheaper one that is ready now. Don't assume.

What makes you so sure? Are you a car saleman per chance?

He was not testing me - he genuinely didn't seem to know what the options were. I know what each and every options is, to the point where I have shamed VW dealers in the past because they themselves know less than I do. This doesn't mean to say I can recount in alphabetical order the official names of every single option as every brand has a different terminology, for example, A.C.C. on BMW is ''Active Cruise Control'' where as on an Audi, its ''Adaptive cruise control'', on a VW the same thing is ''A.D.C.'' and ''A.C.C'' stands for something completely different- Adaptive Chassis Control... the list is long, but we're not talking about 5 or 10 options, there are so many that I cannot and shouldn't have to list long winded technical specs to him on the phone just because he wants to verify I'm genuine or doesn't know himself what they are.

The excuse you wanted to think about it because your "fully loaded" car needed factory ordering made me groan a little TBH.

Good for you. I did not want to buy a car on the phone there and yes, myself and my wife do need to think whether we want to pay extra for the car we really love and want and wait for it to be delivered for 4 months, while in the meantime being stuck or using a hire car or taxis when we can - or to just get one now without the specs we want.

Like I said, after 13 years in the business I never had a customer order "all of them..." Ok, so you must be a car salesman- you've already assumed so much about me from your above comments, and apparently judged your own customers on whether they're ''difficult'' or not.

If you don't want him to ring you again and have no intention of buying there just be honest and say you were only killing time and fancied a drive in a nice VW but thats as far as it goes....

Ok, now I know you're a car salesman. Just because I want time to think about it doesn't mean I have no intention of buying. The same goes for everyone else in the world, my friend. People are allowed to make their own decisions when buying a car, and not everyone has to fit into your categories of what are and aren't likely.

The salesman will soon move on, failing that just tell him you've ordered elsewhere.

Lol- a car sales man telling me to lie to deal with a car salesman. Brilliant.

I don't work in car sales but I can understand why they would want you to list what your definition of "all of them" was to avoid any confusion or misunderstanding as when dealing with thousands of pounds it is best to be as explicit as possible. E.g. suppose they put you down for every possible option and then you turn around and say "oh I didn't realise xenons were available, I'm not paying for that!" It could be that you had seen an incomplete list of options somewhere for example.

It's not a competition to see whether the buyer or dealer can reel off the list of options, but rather to ensure that both parties know exactly what is being (potentially) ordered.

Heck, look at it this way - if the guy genuinely didn't know what the options were, wouldn't it make sense to spell it out for him?

Most customers do lie to salesmen, even if they intend to buy as its a natural defence mechanism and at the end of the day most people aren't trained to be in that situation which can be high pressure....

"I want to think about it" is a line that's used by just about every customer who doesn't and it basically means I don't want to buy the car, or I didn't ever have any intention of buying the car.

If you were so educated on options would know some options actually have numerous alternatives for the same thing, such as alcantara v leather seats, differing high end sound systems, numerous alloy wheel choices, alloy interior trim v leather v carbon fibre, or winter packs and smokers packs that may not be compatible together, so yes, its hard to think you actually know what you want and are doing anything other than dreaming.
