Does my business name give off a negative first impression?

Yup, it is a bad name. Almost as bad as some guys that graduated from my uni the year after me and set up a sports video company called On Par Productions. Because that's what client's want, average.

with photo/video you normally compose images/film with the "two thirds rule"

I am not a professional photographer but I'm pretty certain it is the "Rule of Thirds".

I actually hit Google up and found some interesting material referencing the 'two-thirds rule', most of which I personally think is incorrect or wrong.

Merriam-Webster: 'Two-Thirds Rule'
a political principle requiring that two thirds rather than a simple majority of the members of a politically organized group must concur in order to exercise the power to make decisions binding upon the whole group

Regardless, in response to your original question, the name feels incomplete, 'Two-Thirds Media... and? what else?' So I guess that means it's negative or distracting on first impression.

I like the name, I don't care that I don't get it.

It's quite cool that it seems like something is 'missing'. Means you can play around with it.

'... the other third? That's between us' sort of thing. (But not stupid)

Hi,

Just set up a website for my business, Two Thirds Media. It specialises in photography and video, and with photo/video you normally compose images/film with the "two thirds rule". Hence the name "Two Thirds Media".

I have however had a fair bit of criticism from people on a photography forum saying that the name "Two Thirds" will give people the impression they are not getting my whole effort ie, less than the whole, not quite there, something missing . . . etc etc.

Is this a realistic thing people would really think initially when coming across my business?

I originally really liked the name, but after people have said this I've always had slight doubts.

Would appreciate your thoughts.

Thanks,

Ben.

Dude, not a word of a lie: a colleague of mine had a client called "Who Cares" care homes. Now THAT gives the wrong impression

Literal names aren't fashionable, its all about made up or random words.

Look at the big brand names - kodak, nikkon, canon...random words.

Call it Klondike Media.

its random

doesnt have anything to do with cameras, and I know kodak and nikkon have a meaning but again no meaning associated with cameras.
