Does my business name give off a negative first impression?

I quite like it and I didn't know about the rule side of it. It's a nice name for logo options as well.

If you are worried then put a tagline under the name.

Two thirds media
One third genius

Something like that but less corny

How about Half-full media (kinda less, but sounds better as it's linked to a positive outlook lol).

2/3 Media does have a slight negative connection, not massive - but I wouldn't call it that personally (just incase it did have an impact - but I doubt it would).

How about gibbous media (linked to the name of the moon when it's between 50 & 100%, or third quater media (again referencing the other side of the moons visibility).

Thanks.

And no problem! Sorry wasn't aware and not by any means want it for promotion. Not even any copy on it yet - more so wanted people to comment on logo. :)

No problem with posting the logo up?

We already know the name, so can't see that being an issue.

lol first comment on your FB page - Where's the other third?

I really don't think the majority of people will take a negative image from the brand name. It's fine IMO.

Edit: FYI I've removed the link, I don't want this to be business promotion by the back door ;)

Is it just links disallowed? :p

I would just use your name.

Two Thirds means nothing to those outside photography and makes no sense.

I think most would think nothing of it, it's just a name and your work should do all the talking.

It's probably not what I'd choose though.

Hi,

Just set up a website for my business, Two Thirds Media. It specialises in photography and video, and with photo/video you normally compose images/film with the "two thirds rule". Hence the name "Two Thirds Media".

I have however had a fair bit of criticism from people on a photography forum saying that the name "Two Thirds" will give people the impression they are not getting my whole effort ie, less than the whole, not quite there, something missing . . . etc etc.

Is this a realistic thing people would really think initially when coming across my business?

I originally really liked the name, but after people have said this I've always had slight doubts.

Would appreciate your thoughts.

Thanks,

Ben.

I wouldn't want anything to do with a photography company which basis its name over a terribly simplistic and uninspiring beginners compositional methodology.

I like the suggested alternatives of Three Thirds and Four Thirds, but I have to say I think Five Thirds Media really puts across a powerful message that you are willing to play with convention, but that your clients can be sure that you put in 166.666666% effort every time.

Its the name of the company, surely there's company's out there called "5star, top class" and the rest, but are they?

Let your work represent wether you are good enough at what you do.

Not the name.
