I do disagree with your above post however, you're not a fan of their GPU's even though they have been proven to perform better than nvidia's current gen, but you're a fan of their CPU's that are a mile behind Intel. In fact the only time I think AMD ever beat Intel was the Athlons.
AMD were competing at the top end and winning by a mile. However, every CPU was being sold at a loss and in the end they could not continue. (FX series)
I have never ever owned a top end CPU and never will. Sure they're bloody amazing but they cost amazing money. Then you need an amazing board (as top end CPUs don't have a cheap option) and it all spirals out of control.
Until my I7 950 that I bought just before Sandy I had been with AMD for years and years. It's only Sandy that put AMD down once and for all.
I had numerous Phenom and Phenom 2 CPUs and they were great value.
I don't dislike AMD at all. They've clearly won in the APU sector running rings around Intel and that's why every future console will no doubt use an APU of theirs in some shape or form.
AMD's drivers for GPUs (well, ATI's) peaked for me when they used to make their Fire GL cards. I had a Radeon 9200 Pro and it absolutely battered the Nvidia counterpart and then some. It also had excellent drivers, though that was because they were still competing in the business sector.
The Radeon 9700 and 9800 pro cards were legends in the annals of computer history. The 5 series Radeons were also the dog's danglies..
Titan will give you an idea of just how bad Tahiti is. It's the kitchen sinker, and no doubt from what I've heard it will have performance to match.
AMD are really getting good on pricing which tbh I don't know if i like or hate (I kinda feel like they took the pee out of me at launch now !).
Any way, I would imagine we can all agree that the world would definitely be worse off without them. If you think GPU prices are bad now I shudder to think what would happen if they went out of the business.
Mind you at least we would see proper utlisation and optimisation !
