Hello im building a gaming pc and itll be my first and I have a budget of 1000 for the tower itself without a copy of windows as I have that and I was wondering what I could get for my money im willing to increase the budget by up to 10% if it gives good extra performance thanks for any help

You could do but the jump to a 7970 is generally considered to be about 5% on the 7950 and it's not considered to be great value. Only way to tell the difference between the 7950 and the 7970 is in benchmarks or looking at an FPS counter....

It's the same with the Nvidia 670 and 680.

Up to you but I'd keep it as is personally.

Thanks is this the case even in the 7970 thats overclocked to 6000mhz I dont no much about what these numbers mean but was just wondering thats actually a big help as nobody told me that there wasnt much differance in the 7950 and 7970 so would I be able to xfire two 7950s in the future ?

That's the memory speed and also in my experience doesn't make much difference in gaming, just benchmarking.

You can overclock the 7950 to those speeds 99% of the time anyway by just moving a few sliders to the right.

Yes with the above spec you will be able to get another 7950 in there for a major boost in future games if needed.

Okay thanks a lot that really has saved me money as originally I was set on a 7970 for 350 also I know this is a seperate topic but what sort of monitor would you recommend like 1080p 1200p 1440p 1600p im not sure on my budget for this yet but was wondering if the extra pixels are worth it on say a 24 inch screen and if 16:9 or 16:10 is better

Depends on the games you play in my opinion.

I generally only play very fast paced FPS games like Quakelive and TFC so I have a 120Hz monitor which makes the gameplay much smoother.

If you don't play really fast games then I'd get a higher resolution monitor (although you can't get 1440p or more smaller than 27" - to my knowledge)

oh well Ill be playing things like bf 3 and crysis 3 skyrim so mainly fps but i want 120hz with a fast response rate and I will be fairly close so i think any more than 24 inch would probably cause me to play worse, so is there really any difference in 1080 and 1200

Don't think you can get 1200p 120Hz so 1080p it is!

okay thanks a bunch youve been a big help, back to gpus would it be easy to overclock a gpu and should i just buy the cheapest 7950 or do any brands make better ones like msi or sapphire

Go for the Gigabyte Windforce in the spec above. You get a 3 year warranty (UK) and it has one of the best cooling systems.

The Gigabyte 7950 would be considered the better choice. You get UK RMA and they run cool & almost silent.
