I'm following this guide (quick overclocking method)
I'm on the 'Increase GPU Clock Offset' step.. the guide tells me to use GPU-Z to keep track of the boost clock, however when I increase the clock offset in Precision X the Boost setting is not changing in GPU-Z (I've tried quitting/restarting it)
How do I see the changes in my boost clock..?

Thanks.

You won't see the changes till you fire up something that uses the GPU (games/3DMark's/Heaven).

Run Heaven in window mode and have a play :)

Youll need to run a game or benchmark to show what the boost reaches. At idle the card will still be downclocked. I use afterburner with on screen display set to show core and memory clocks.

Thanks for the answers
Do I just select a random GPU clock offset, run Heaven & watch for results?
Also why does the guide say 'use GPU-Z to keep track of boost clock'

With afterburner, i set power target to the max, (112%). Then firstly, increase core offset +10, testing with heaven after every increase. Max on my core is +130, if the core is clocked to high, youll get driver has stopped responding errors.

Once ive hit maximum core, i then start on memory, the memory on theese can clock pretty high, (+770 here), id suggest starting at +400 and working your way up, again testing with heaven etc. If the memory clock is too high, youll get artifacts during benching.

Regarding gpu-z, you can leave it running and it will log maximum boost etc, i just prefer afterburner as i can see the clocks in real time on screen.

We all have different ways of overclocking and that is the way the original poster does his.

I am a fan of MSI Afterburner and use that for my overclocking.

Put the power target to max.

Start with the core overclock. Go up small (+30) and run a loop of Heaven. Keep adding till it crashes out in 10's.

Once you find your stable core, move onto the memory and start with +250 and work from there (go up in 20's). When you see artifacting, drop back by 20 and run it again...Still artifcats, drop 20 again.

Thanks for all the help & apologies for what are most probably blindingly obvious questions..

In Msi I have Power Limit (it's already at 111 Max) is that what you guys mean by power target?
When I find something stable, is it automatically saved and loaded by default at system start or do I save he overclock as a profile?

Cheers.

Also do I leave the Precision X Voltage at max or reset it?

Once you find your stable settings, there should be an option to save the settings. Im unfamiliair with precision x though tbh. Power limit and target are the same yes.

I can get +125 on the Core Clock.. soon as I start increasing Memory Clock however, even if it's only +50 or so Heaven crashes every time.. sometimes immediately & sometimes after a few minutes.
Is there anything I can do about this.. or is the stock memory clock the limit on my card?

Actual error is:

D3D11AppWindow::swap_window0: device removed

If it makes any difference I have all settings at max 1920x1200 (incl tesselation) in Heaven

Thanks.

Back the core down say 15mhz and try it again, tbh with core overclocking on theese, it's such a lottery as to what a particular card will do.

Anything above 1200mhz on the core and it crashes but i'm able to increase the memory to 1800mhz no problem what so ever. A major difference from the 6950 which wouldn't above 900/1350

Thanks to all for the advice..

I didn't have the core voltage unlocked.. I should have right?
Can people advise what I should set this at, I'm about to run Heaven again having dropped the Core Clock down to +110 & my current Memory Clock is +150

Thanks to all for the help it's much appreciated..

I've just run through Heaven with the Core Clock at +100 & Memory Clock at +600 and all was well.
Should I be able to squeeze more than the above (I haven't tried yet)
Should I be noticing a significant FPS increase in Heaven..? because I'm not.. it's pretty much exactly the same as it was prior to overclocking.

What sort of score are you reaching in heaven? From looking at various screenshots i took, from my own testing way back, fps was 166 on an early run, the final oc i settled on reached 177fps. But the score in heaven increased from 1815 to 2106. Unfortunately i didnt add the clock details to the screenshots.

By all means you can try to push further, is +100 the best you can reach so far on the core without errors? Just make sure the card isnt hitting 70c, as it will throttle the speed down at this temp.

When I had the Core at +125 Heaven crashed every time.
I didn't realize you got a score using Heaven (apologies I'm new to all this) I've just been looking at the FPS counter in the top right of the screen whilst it's running & that fluctuates between 40-70 with all the settings at max & 1920x1200 res.

No need to apologise mate. Glad to be able to offer any advice.:)

+125 is a no no then, btw are you using heaven version 4, as all of my testing was done on the earlier version 3. This thread here.

I havent tried 4 myself yet, but i think fps will be lower in it as it's a more demanding benchmark. When the bench is running, take a note of what speed your core and memory are running at. You can set precision x or afterburner to display theese on screen.

Press F9 to start the benchmark and use the settings Setter links to. This will help see how your score compares.

Also try a stock and then with your overclock. Most times at 1080P, overclocks are not realy worth it but for benching it is :)
