Hi all

I bought a second hand motherboard from a well known auction site. It was advertised as "new other, opened but never used" after receiving I found that it was very used it had a buckled back-plate, bent pin on cpu socket and tim everywhere including cpu pins.
Having complained to seller with no reply I escalated to the resolution center which prompted a response from the seller who has agreed to refund upon return of goods.
Now turns out they want me to return goods tracked and pay costs, question is when there has been such a stark discrepancy on the sellers part why should it cost me when I am, at no fault I have just sent a message asking for full costs to be covered where do I stand ?

ouch yes fleabay at its best.

contact ebay and put in a dispute.

I did they said seller has offered full refund if you return goods at your cost although i found this on ebay

5: Postage excluded. Now just a minute. If the buyer has a clear case for returning the item, they are entitled to all of their costs. Not only are they entitled to their original postage, they are also entitled to claim the cost of returning the item! To withhold postage is, in the eyes of the law, viewable in two ways - fraud or theft. And, between you and me, what's the difference?! If you ever see "postage excluded" in a returns policy, tell the buyer - they may not realise, but it could be illegal

ask the seller to refund the return postage costs as its their fault or say you will have no choice but to leave negative feedback.

Is that based on the law, or ebay's rules? If ebay/paypal don't force the postage cost refund then it just becomes too much hassle?

do not mention any feedback! as you can have any feedback you leave deleted as feedback extortion

They don't always remove bad feedback. I sold a phone and the guy was in Spain who won even tho game stated UK only, I refunded the money when I looked at the address and he left feedback saying something like won item paid and never sent possible scammer, I contacted eBay and they said there is nothing they can do.

I used a well known auction site once in 2009, it was a massive headache and I have never used it again. Shame they don't have any real competitors.

can't you through the resolution center when they give you the option to refund from the seller decline it and say that the postage has to be included to return and counter as such.

You have to pay for the return postage and it needs to be tracked or the seller can just say he never received it.

Don't use ebay in future for these kind of purchases, I would never put a used motherboard or hard drive into my main PC which came off ebay. You can never be sure it might have a very intermittant fault which you may not notice straight away.

I only tend to buy things new and boxed off eBay, mainly focusing on auctions but really, it's not a good idea.

May as well spend the extra few ££$$ and just get it from OC or other reputable retailers, with the combined community and great customer support, it's worth it.
