Ok two things happened, first there was an origin patch and second I got the 7970.

After 30 min or so of bf3 my pc freezes and I need to restart..
Downclocked graphics card to stock and it still freezes.
Reapplied clocks and ran unigine for 30 min, rock solid.
Tried bf3 again with more volts both stock and overclocked. Same issue.
Reapplied overclock and played hitman absolution for 1hr30min. No freeze.
Tried uninstalling drivers with driver fusion.
Tried updating from 13.1 cats to the beta 13.2 cats, same issue.
Audio in playback devices changed to 44.1KHz
Disabled all AMD HDMI audio devices, despite uninstalling the driver for these.
Ran sfc /scannow (was clean)
Disabled the SSDP services (upnp)
Made sure in game origin stuff is off.
Tried running with afterburner shutdown.

Any one have a solution?

Are you running any gpu monitoring software such as msi afterburner, RadeonPro or GpuZ?

If yes, try disabling them.

Already shut them all down.

I guess I'll try repairing bf3.
I don't think it's my card because I can run unigine 4 for 30 minutes solid rock stable and I played hitman absolution maxed out for 1hr 30.

edit

Tried the repair and it detected no errors/corrupt files.

Tried chrome and it seemed a bit more stable, then it froze.
Went into graphics options and turned on vsync and grabbed all the windows updates... seems stable for now.

I find BF3 is a real good test for stability. I once ran 3D Mark 11 in a loop for over 15 hours with no problem and also Heaven 3.0 benchmark for around 12 hours with no problem.

Then I loaded BF3 and within an hour it froze or blank screened. I had 1150/1500 stable so am now trying 1175/1500 and so far so good.

EDIT: 1175 was no good crashed in 3D Mark 11 back to 1150

I'm going to borrow the 7970 from work and try that (despite trying my card at stock), if it freezes its definitely not my card.

Good news, it isn't my 7970 specifically. The one I borrowed from work froze in exactly the same way. I'm going back to win 7 64 to try and fix this.

Forgot to update, going back to beta 5 ati drivers and disabling core parking fixed it. Afterburner was also causing the game to freeze when active. Overclocks through the ccc worked fine.
I also redid my overclock on my cpu.

It's silky smooth now!

edit: also installed radeon pro and turned on dynamic vsync with 120Hz
