I just can't take this anymore - any game crashes my pc. Starcraft 2, Borderlands 2 - will play fine for a while, and then just crash the whole damn thing.

Screen goes black, weird buzzing sound from the speakers and absolutely nothing responsive at all. No blue screen. Only thing is to restart by switching PSU off and on again.

The only time this ever seems to happen is when I'm gaming.

All temps appear to be fine. My Spec:

- Windows 7 (65 bit)
- Crucial 256MB SSD + Samsung 1TB
- Gigabyte Z77-D3H Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard
- Intel Core i5-3570K
- 16Gb RAM (Kingston HyperX Blu 8GB x2)
- Gigabyte ATI Radeon HD 7850 OC Windforce 2X 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card
- Corsair HX-620 modular PSU

How do I go about tracking down what the frak is causing this? Unfortunately I don't have any spare parts to try swap things in and out.

using latest motherboard bios? id do that first

then enable x.m.p for your memory it sets up the speed/timings/voltages for you then see if it crashes in games

soundslike memory setting not right from what your describing, lockups with sound/buzzing

No overclock on the system at all. Everything is 100% stock

Going to try updating mobo bios first.

Then, will try running onboard graphics, not sure if that will actually run games or not though?

i dont see the point running onboard, its not gonna stress the other parts like your gpu will

does your memory support xmp? if so id enable that aswell

Bios updated.

Cant see any settings for xmp in the bios.

In the advanced memory section the top option is "extreme memory profile (XMP)"

You should have a XMP profile to load.

That will sort the frequency and timings etc of the RAM correctly for you.

I had similar with a faulty HX620

As it heated up gaming it would cut out as the voltage dipped below 11V.

Do you have any logging software, I've forgotten the name of one but is used be the aida32 or similar though I just use a fluke meter.

Yeah, I have crashes all the time on my OC'd Q6600 when playing games, I think it's the memory, and it wasn't cheap either.

Everytime I want to play a game I have to lower the OC, luckily I have a Mobo with multiple OC profiles, so I switch between 'general use profile - high OC' to 'gaming profile - low OC'.

You might also want to ensure the correct DDR voltage is set, some Mobo's go for an auto default but depending on the RAM manfacturer, they don't always work on stock voltages!

if it doesnt show up then your ram probably wont support xmp,you then need to set up the speed/timings dram voltage yourself

set the speed to 1600mhz and timings to what is printed on the ram or box and set dram voltage to 1.55v

timings will probably be 9-9-9-28-2t
