Looking for a phone, my HTC wildfire (first version) its on its kind of last legs.

All in all, not been that happy with it, seems to have a lot of bugs.

Im not after the latest/biggest best etc but I would like an average model that is slightly better and has a bigger screen with better camera.

Really don't have a clue what Kind of phones to be looking at.

Ive had a look at the Samsung Galaxy S II and like the look of it, and its kind of at the most of what i want to spend contract wise so a less valuable phone of the same spec if there is one around?

Looking for alternatives if you have any suggestions please

What do you want to spend on a contract? Requirements, etc.

Not to sound ungrateful I was not really looking for advisement on my contract just what kind of phones are about, I don't know if the two go hand in hand but for now if we could keep the discussion just to the phones and what sort of phones are maybe older than the Samsung or less valuable but still as good?

Well contracts can be strange, some phones are excellent and available on cheaper contracts and some are quite poor but expensive. It's all a bit random.

Generally speaking the GS2 is the best phone in the bracket that it's in, but it could be terrible value... it depends where you're looking.

What is the cost of the contract per annum versus cost of buying a phone outright... Nexus 4 is on the current bleeding edge and is only £239 unlocked, direct from Google.

HTC One S
HTC One X
Galaxy S2
Note 1
Sony Experia S (prob worse of the bunch)

All previous generation phones.

Wouldn't bother waiting for next gen phones. All the flagship phones will be £30+ a month, and all of the above will most likely still be better then a mid range phone form 2013.

In order of best:

1. Note II, RAZR HD, one XL, one X+
2. GS 3, one X, one S, nexus 4
3. xperia T, GS 2, GN

In the end, it comes down to personal preference.

No point doing anything just yet though, xperia Z out very soon and the HTC one will be out very soon too! (possibly with other new devices)

Thanks Guys for all the helpful replies, gives me a little more clue.

I will look into the cost of the nexus 4 and the others mentioned

Nexus 4 is as mentioned a bargain.

The S2 can be found on sub £20/m contracts.

S3 is the creme but still not on particularly cheap contracts.

Look at Expansys for Huawei Ascend P1 or a Nokia Lumia 620.

OK the best deals for me seem so far to be coming up with these two:

Sony Xperia T

LG Optimus L7

Any of the two I should avoid in particular or is one noticeably better than the other one? All that is noticable to me is the higher res camera on the Xperia
