Just finished Metro 2033...

Amazing game. You have to change the FOV and have it running super smooth though, otherwise it feels quite horrible.

Yeah, forcing VSYNC on with Nvidia control panel was a must or it makes me feel ill.

I've been playing it on and off for ages, picked it up again last week and intend to finish it, forgot how amazing it looks and much it gives me the heebie jeebies, those rat things, urgh

I've only just started playing this, seems good so far, but seem to lose interest sometimes whist playing it. I'll keep going...

Keep at it, I'm about half done and it's turning into my game of the year (so far!).
Jeez, It out fears F.E.A.R. in places for me.

I got it while it was free. I was really disappointed in how short the whole thing seemed. Also once you get that ball bearing gun thing it's too easy IMHO.

The atmosphere in certain parts was awesome though.

I had a rough start with 2033 a couple of years ago. Laggy mouse (caused by low frame rate I eventually worked out) and frustrating close combat (due to FOV I'm guessing). So it ended up on the back burner.

But revisiting it this month I have discovered am incredibly immersive graphical experience. If you look at external scenes or textures too closely it's a very average game. But inside, in the dark, the lighting and overall impression is nothing short of spectacular. The gameplay & plot has its ups and downs, but as a kind of "modern Doom" I've enjoyed it a lot, and the menu music now triggers a mixture of nostalgia and fear. Great game, even if it's very linear (like HL2 and many other spoon fed experiences).

Just finished a playthrough of this (thought I had played it before but I was mistaken).

Excellent game, only things annoyed me a bit was the checkpoint saves and that once alerted all enemies knew exactly where you were hiding.

I'm either going to play it again on a higher difficulty or go install stalker... its put me in the stalker mood :) hmm maybe even Fallout 3.

If you play Stalker (Call of Pripyat), try the Misery mod :

yep, the full stalker series is definetely on my play list for soon (with mods) :D

Decided to replay Metro2033 using Ranger Hardcore, should be interesting, although I'm finding lack of ammo information a bit annoying already.

Press the button to get your notebook thingie out, shows you what ammo you have left in your weapon.

Yeah, I eventually discovered that one, air filters turned out to be my main problem with ranger hardcore. Finished my playthrough Today, had to backtrack a bit at library due to running out of air filters. Air filters are a bit too random, you can load a checkpoint and a body gives you a filter, other times you load the same checkpoint and the same body doesn't have any. Excellent game though, highly entertaining.

Trick with air filters is to not sprint, just walk around and they last ages.

Didn't really sprint much, I went more for stealth kills. e.g. In frontline I took out the whole red side via stealth and throwing knives :D throwing knives were my weapon of choice really for most of the game.

I feel quite sad i bought this when THQ was selling that bundle for a £5ver but never actually played it :o since i got that physx.dll error and put me off it.

Might give it a whirl on the weekend.
