Geforce Titan rumours.

I think this is an exaggeration. One of the main reasons for the price is probably because of the poor yield. Another reason due to it being the fastest single card gpu out there. Do they make them having to charge a good amount tomake a good profit due to poor yields, or would you prefer the card not to be available? It gives people choices.
I fully expect the 780 to be a better priced card (due to less throwable bits during manufacturing) and probably just as fast as the Titan if not better.

I do agree that some of those slating them are upset as it's outside of budget.

Price is set due to nvidia always set high prices for maximum profit.
its milking everything out of it.
its not about yeilds or anything else, all about making money.

Thats the way it works for companies or people for that matter.

When you go to work you are not going to ask your boss for a pay cut because you have not been giving it 100% lately. No if you are offered a pay rise instead you will grab it with both hands.

I don't think we need any of that to come to a reasonable expectation that a graphics card priced between £800-£900 won't sell in volume even with high yields.

Ever heard of Quadro? FireGL? Tesla? We're talking about cards in the thousands of pounds bracket. The gaming world is just one market of many for graphics card manufacturers... This is a common thing on this forum. I'm not surprised given that probably 90% of OCUK's customers are purchasing for gaming reasons and not for business.

I've been putting off upgrading my graphics for two generations now and saving my money, we haven't seen any benchmarks yet, but it does look like this card will give a significant benefit over the 480sli setup I'm currently running.

With reference to the spec in my sig, will an i7 920 @4Ghz still cut it with this card? I could go sli in the future, worth it at my res?

As I said above, I know we've no benchies yet, but it's fun to think about :D

 how do you come to that conclusion? no benchmarks anywhere yet, no real-world results. Just specs on paper. No real feedback. And I'm sure you're only looking at this from a gaming standpoint. There's a fairly sizeable market out there for CUDA-based GPU-accellerated rendering and the Titan is looking like a VERY attractive option in that neck of the woods. I know Nvidia have marketed this towards gamers but that's simply because they want as many people to buy it as possible and there will always be willy-waving types who will plump the relatively huge cost for the "best" gaming card money can buy. But for the rest of us who will make money using these cards these are looking like very nice options.

I should have finished my post instead of forgetting :D

I meant to say: It won't sell well comparatively.

But Nvidia's shareprice is not exactly running high. It's a business, they have to make money to survive. if they have troubled other areas of the business then any good ones need to over-achieve if possible.
Or put it another way. Maybe they should sell them for £200 and in a few years time there's no graphics cards at all as both AMD and Nvidia bust?

Image you yourself running a food store. How would you set prices? Would you consider competition in the local area, cost of items that make up the food, time taken to make the food. If you have a product suprior to the compeitions, do you set the price higher or lower? It's all business
I don't want to be ripped off, none of us do. However, supply and demand etc. Cost of manufacturing, having to make a profit, that sets the price. If it's too high we dont pay. They either will sell enough of them to make a profit on them or they stop selling them.

I think there will be a good demand by those especially running high res multi screen setups

do u go to work and ask to double your salary and the boss caves in and says yes?

9/10 they dont and its the same situation here.

by all means u can go spend £800 on a single gpu solution but dont bitch and moan when the 780gtx is priced the same

"I chatted with Nvidia about this card a few weeks back and they admitted the GTX 700 series will not be as fast as this. And for all us geeky gaming types who like to herald the next “fastest graphics card ever” it’s going to be a long wait."

^^

This could be the most expensive least progressive generation ever lol. AMD need only launch a card that's 25% faster than the 7970 Ghz within same price bracket and would make the Titan look ridiculous. I wish AMD would come forward and talk about there plans. If I knew AMD were launching something better soon it would stop me grabbing a Titan..

This is a special release card based on the chip designed for tesla! It will not affect the 780 price one bit.

My point is companies and people have one thing in common when it comes to money, they will try and get as much as possible for a product or service.

When it comes to graphics cards I don't bitch about the price, if I want one I will get it.

The only question I ask about a GPU is will it do what I want it to, if the answer is yes then its good value.

Wonder if we can expect a "good game pack" with the Titan similar to one they ran a few weeks ago on an amd card think it was 5 games, would help to ease the price pain :)

But u have not answered the question. what is stopping nvidia and ATI charging 800 for 780/8870 cards?

why not when people are happy to spend 800 on this.

The market is what dictates the price ie if no one buys something it goes on sale but if people keep buy and buying, prices will go up and up and up until people no longer can afford it.

in this case it seems people can afford a titan therefore if it sells well, nvidia and ati will be thinking umm, lets charge the same for our next batch of cards seeing as people lapped up a titan.

They are in it for the money. if they could even sell this titan for 2k, they would love to do so
