To SLI or not to SLI?

Hi all.

Have a quick question. I’m looking, towards the end of this month, to invest in a few upgrades for my PC. The specs are in my sig.
Basically, I’m looking at upgrading one of my monitors to a XL2411T for the super smooth 144Hz, but to help achieve that, I was thinking about getting a second KFA2 660Ti. What are the opinions on this?
I know people will bring up the bus restrictions of the 660Ti, but @ 1080p, they just don't seem to affect anything. My 660Ti happily sits at 100+ FPS even on BF3 on Ultra, with no AA. I even tried my setup on a 1440p monitor and it was still happy on Ultra at around 70-80FPS.
I’ve seen some reviews saying that SLI 660 Ti’s perform quite a lot better than a 680, which is quite exciting, and even if I sold my 660Ti to buy a 680, it would still be more expensive than the 2 660’s cost me, so that’s out of the question really.
Main question is as above, what do people think about running 2 660 Ti’s in SLI @ 1080p? Also, I have a TX750 (Corsair 750W) PSU at the moment, would that be sufficient for SLI? Bearing in mind when answering that the KFA2 is by far the quietest, and I believe the lowest power consumption of all 660Ti’s.
Opinions welcomed.

Adding another 660TI will indeed give you a nice boost.

Make sure air flow is good in your case, as SLI/CF soon warms the case and everything else up and make sure you have a good enough PSU and you will be good to go :)

SLI works very well and Nvidia are quick on the ball to release new SLI profiles for newer games. If an older game you like but it isn't supported, use Nvidia Inspector to force SLI on :)

dont go sli its ***** annoying new games dont work or work on only 1 card.
I had Sli and crossfire hate both now. Never again

Thanks for the quick response.

I have an NZXT Phantom 630, which I think is one of the better cases for cooling, so I'm hoping that won't be an issue.

The PSU is a TX750, is that good enough?

Well worth it. Tomshardware posted a review this week of 3x660Ti's vs 2x680's, dont know if this is the one you were refering to but at 1920x1080 the 660Ti's were a formidable combo.

You can check on the Nvidia website re your PSU although when I had a look the other day it didn't seem to have all their latest cards on there.

That actually wasn't the one I was referring to, I'll try and find it, but it shows very similar results. Thanks for sharing.

As long as nobody comes up with a reason for me to definitely NOT do this, I think it sounds like a good buy.

Been using SLI since forever and these days a few niggles aside _most_ of the time it just works. That said I haven't tried Farcry3 (uplay :|) and I hear it doesn't work the best in that and it never used to work in RAGE (but even one card could hold 60fps 99.999% of the time with ease in that game) but those are exceptions rather than the rule.

I have seen some mixed reviews for 660ti sli.

Some of the reviews don't show much of an increase in the minimum frames by adding a second card.

Far Cry 3 has poor scaling. Most recent games have been pretty good to be fair and My SLI experience was nothing but smooth (310.xx aside) and trouble free.

Very easy to setup and no issues at all.

Edit:

I found it hard trying to get bench results for multi games but found this.

That will give you some idea of what you can expect.

Remember looking at this previously, it's from August 2012, but gives mininums.

Been thinking about 2 x EVGA GeForce GTX 660 FTW Signature 2 3GB

Do it. You have already passed the needed criteria by stating you are happy with the one card you have now. That means you are not relying on anything so you can only be happy with it :)

I went SLI recently and was pretty much satisfied with what I had. Adding the extra card adds some security to my PC and I expect at least a couple of years with settings up to the max :D

Enjoy !

Another reccomendation for sli. Ive used it quite a few times now. Everytime i buy a motherboard, the thing it's gotta have is sli support. It was a bit iffy in it's infancy, (to be expected). But the last few times it's been great. The cons are increased heat, noise and power use. But those for me are far outweighed by the benefits.

sli been pretty solid with me. occasionally PC boots and only sees one card which is a PITA.

completely transforms your PC from what you thought was good to GOOD

Thanks for all the responses guys. SLI definitely seems like a great choice. All the games that have been mentioned as having problems are games I don't play anyway, so it's all good.

Thanks again.

In big titles sli profiles appear pretty quickly, it isnt the buggy thing that a lot of people say it is. Ive used it going back to the nv 600 series, wasnt perfect back then. But the last 3 or 4 sli setups ive had have been great. Cant wait for my next one.
