STALKER - what a game!

The one thing I love about S.T.A.L.K.E.R., is its proof that most developers have no idea what they are doing when it comes to the PC, as my laptop which has a 1.6ghz processor, a 128mb graphics chip and 2gb of ram ran Call of Pripyat on medium settings!

That's insane, when it wouldn't run Morrowind above minimum. :p

Runs smooth for me on my Q6600 and gtx280

Depends on the mod as well. Some of the ones I've used have been as smooth as any other title, while others do have varying amounts of skipping / stuttering.

You guys recommend me giving COP another go? Bought it a while back but never gave it a chance really. Is it worth a play with the complete mod??

Yes, but I would say don't try and treat it like some fast paced fps. Take your time like a fine wine instead of necking it like a can of Stella :)

One of my favourite game series. It as many faults and bugs :P I've only played through the first one with the stock game the other two ive played them through numerous times but never completed them Think ive done teh first one about 3 times loved it. You need the complete mod it really improves things, fixes endless amounts of bugs and glitches. Fixes a lot of the quests. Delivers stunning visuals a vast improvement over the standard textures atmosphere and weather system.

The stock ones are good but complete mod really does complete the game makes no changes to the base story and quests and adds in kick ass Night Vision system :). Its game tweaks also help immerse you in "The Zone".

I'll never forget first playing Clear Sky's the visuals at the start just blew me away to this day its one of the best looking things I've seen.

I advise everyone to play all 3 the first one being the best all round game Clear skys being brilliant but a bit broken, the 3rd one being the best built of the 3 games and I'd say better than the other 2 in a lot of ways.

I wish someone would come along give the dev team an endless amount of money and go make a Dayz version of stalker. It would make a grown man very happy indeed. I could just imagine The Zone with 20 or so mates all running around with you taking on NPC and Player bandits. Perfect:D

The notion that you should play a heavily modified version of the game from the offset is nothing short of infuriating. I can appreciate the need to address certain bugs and glitches, but most modifications alter the very fabric of the game. You're not playing what was intended, but rather a fan's envisioning. I for one have tried both the Complete Mod and Misery Mod for Call of Pripyat. Both are grossly inconsistent, and introduce a whole host of different issues to an already problematic game.

I've completed the vanilla version of Call of Pripyat on master difficulty without dying. That's dedication few can muster.

You owe it to yourselves to try the games as intended, warts and all.

I bought it years ago and tried a few times to get into it.

The combat and hit registry was so horrendous and infuriating. I just gave up. Shame because lots of people love it

Like any other game, it's not for everyone. I will, though, add that some of the mods do make the hit registration considerably better. I seem to recall Oblivion Lost was one of them. :)

Is that present in the complete mod?

I appreciate some people's disdain for mods but think that's what I'll go for. Is moddb the place to get it?

Sorry, I can't remember about the Complete mod, as it's been a long time since I've played it. I should think you'll find it at least somewhat better, since I do recall seeing that the A.I. and other mechanics had been improved.

Incidentally, the 'hit registration' problem people have is in some cases (may not be for you) due to the early guns being crap, badly maintained POS's that can't hit the broad side of a barn. That's by design, and the later weapons feel soooo much more powerful as a result of the contrast. Possibly this isn't the issue to which you're referring though.

On a side note I rewatched the movie the other day. Still love it.

Its one of those games i got when i was in the middle of a pc crisis, pc wasn't powerful enough to run any of the new games this one included. For some reason when i did upgrade i never came back to it, as its only 11 quid on steam i might give it a blast when im better.
