150mbps or 300mbps?

Assuming that you can't or don't want to go wired, go 300 and go 5Ghz, as for why?

I can currently see 18 2.4Ghz networks while sat in my living room, this makes for very poor performance as the channels are very crowded. As for 5Ghz networks I can see only one, which is mine :)

Not kept up on wireless for a while, so potentially stupid question -

do phones, PSPs, Vitas etc all work with 5Ghz or do you need to run a dual band network (e.g. like the old a/b standards before)?

Powerline is only 'just' quick enough for it. I got tired of it and just drilled holes in the ceiling / floors to wire the cables in directly.

Ones I am using are more than up to the task, even with the red status light (min speed) I can stream 1440p content from the internet.

It's copying HD files over the network that it really shows how slow they are, for me anyway.

Max speed was ~11-15 Mb/s, back on gigabit ~80+ Mb/s

Depends on the make/model. My Nexus7 is 2.4Ghz only and my Nexus4 will do 5 and 2.4Ghz.

The PS3 is 2.4 only the 360 depends on the wifi adapter/model. It's all a bit pot luck I'm afraid. Most of the more expensive WiFi access points will allow you to run both at the same time, so it's less of an issue than it first appears.

802.11N 300Mb/s is way better than 150Mb/s. You could also try purchasing/looking into 5Ghz wireless.

Remember these speeds are for sharing/send files over your Network from device to device (In terms Computer to Computer) or even PS3 to Computer since the PS3 can stream information from your Computer/Laptop (PC). I think the XBOX can, but I'm not entirely sure about it.
