Hi guys. I'm new to this forum. :)

I'm also new to building a gaming PC so any links to tutorials would be highly appreciated. :)

My budget is £1,000 and I'm looking for a gaming PC which can do the following:

-Play the Elder Scrolls (Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim) and Fallout 3/New Vegas maximally in ultra high settings if possible
-Allow game creation in the UDK, Blender for modelling, Gimp for texture work and maybe possibly Mudbox. For that, I would need a 1TB hard drive or higher if possible.

Any help would be appreciated. :)

well my m4's haven't failed yet i'm a stickler for things that I know work. Yes samsung has superior write speeds but the M4 has an excellent track record for quality which is why it hasn't changed in a good 18 months unlike most of their competitors why change what isn't broke after all.

As for the Ram you're right I just plucked one from the list. XMS3 is good memory and corsair have excellent RMA system should it go faulty in 2-3 years time.

I'm using crucial ballistix myself also very nice RAM and I think a bit cheaper.

I was new to building a pc about a month ago.

Google "newegg build a pc" all you need.

Hardest part I found was installing the mb into the case and "crunching" the lock over the chip. Other than that, chill, take your time and it will be easy.

No clue about cases and aftermarket cooling, so just stole the guys ones above me :p

This is what I would "start" with if it was me, with my reading on here it's sort of what people recommend.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Gigabyte ATi Radeon HD 7950 Windforce 3X 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card with Crysis 3 & Bioshock PC Games £269.99

1 x OcUK 24x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEM £16.99

Options would be to drop the SSD to a 128gb, change the GPU to an MSI one for £30 less and then with the left over money not sure, perhaps a better or bigger HDD like a wester or seagate.

Nice! I nearly spec'd exactly that as an alternative spec. Then I remembered we don't know exactly what he needs, so I didn't want to get carried away spec'ing ;)

To be honest Skyrim is a DX9 title. Even a stock 7850 would play it happily maxed out, my 1GB 460 doesnt struggle with it and that's with the high texture mods etc. For DX11 titles some more grunt would be nice, I used the 670 as it has CUDA support and PhsyX. The 7950 is a good shout too and comes with some free games to help sweeten the deal. Being able to add a second GPU would help if he is toying with getting or has a 120Hz panel.

I look forward to seeing what the OP finally settles on :D

Thanks for the replies, guys. :D

How much power will I need to use UDK optimally? I will use all of the features to make a game and I'm not sure how much horsepower it exactly needs.

I'm trying to install the power supply but I'm looking at the guide and can't figure it out. Any help would be appreciated.

What issues are you having?

On the motherboard you will need to install the main ATX connector (24 pin) and the 8 pin beside the CPU.

The graphic card power is 6 + 2 (the gpu will 2 power connections and both will need to be populated) and the motherboard is 4 + 4.

The Psu sits at the bottom rear of your case and is held in place with 4x screws. Providing the case is not sitting on the carpet, place it fan down in the case, as the case has a filter for dust it will be okay, also makes it easier to rout cables behind the mobo for better management.

Hmm, I've seen Youtube videos and unlike the above posted guide, they put it on the up side of the case, not on the bottom one.
