Thought you may be interested in 1 year's running costs in an M3, running relatively high mileage at 21k.

Anyways, you can see the figures here.

Not quite sure why I keep so much info on my phone, but there you go. Fuel I had to record as I used to get it paid for by my ex-client - who now, bizarrely, has gone bust

So remove the warranty and your upgrades it isn't too bad.

Why do BMW owners seem to be the only sort to get warranties?

Done 80k in my ep3 in 8 years and it has had one failure that a warranty might cover and it cost me £400 to fix. 8 years of warranty could have cost about 3k or so.

Other than that, nice stats.

Because the BMW warranty is a good 'un and worth having, especially on a car like an M3 that could throw some serious bills. Sure, you might not have any problems but it's all about the "peace of mind" factor.

Personally, i'd pay the £900 for it.

Lots of detail excellent write up.

So after all that are you getting a different car ?

Thanks, and yes I think I am. My mileage has dropped significantly in the last couple of months. No idea what though! Keep thinking 911 or a C63 AMG.

Yup, that was my thoughts too. If it the mileage were a lot less....? I'm not so sure.

Great write up thanks. Often considered doing similar mileage in another E92 M3 as I really miss it, but after seeing those figures I'm quite happy in my diesel civic.

Premium cars are often too complicated for their own good therefore a warranty is very well advised. Trouble is the Mercedes warranty is approriximately 8 billion pounds a year and not many people on here tend to buy Jags etc. The BMW warranty is reasonable value, therefore it comes up a lot on this forum.

Aye, I agree with any proper 'm' car but people paying pretty high sums on 320d or 325i m sports?

I like the e92 m3, got a kyosho 1:18 model of one. Hopefully drive the real thing soon and a lancia delta integrale evo 2. :)

The full warranty package on a 320d or a 325i, assuming sub 60k miles, is not a high sum at all. Infact without the super-awesome breakdown recovery its under 500 quid a year. Even less if you add an excess.

I *think* the BMW warranty is less on the non-M cars like the 320d/325i but i'm not 100% sure on that, you'd need to ask [BMWWiki]Fox. :D

[Edit] Beaten, battered, bruised, etc.

mine is only £50 a month including the uber amazing breakdown cover wouldve been about £490 annually but if you pay annually and you go over the mileage break points (60k/100k) your warranty goes up to the next tier, where as monthly it stays the same forevermore :D (i know you know this already, just letting other people know :p)

But it does appear to have gone up recently :(
