5870 replacement

A 7770 would give slightly better performance, but a 7850 would be the best option as that would be a decent upgrade for a good price.

You dont really know what your talking about if you think a 7770 gives better performance than a 5870

A 7850 would be comparable with slightly better performance.

The minimum upgrade from a 5870 would be a 7870 i would say.

Agree with the above. I was mulling over upgrading my 5870 to a 7850 but have decided not to. Comparable yes, big increase, no. Obviously the power draw is much nicer though.

5870's are still bloody good cards.

I'll add that I meant with a good overclock on both. I would have thought the same before, but Ltmatt posted some scores of his 7770 on 3DM11 which were higher than I could get with my overclocked 6850, and would be comparable to a 5870 I would imagine. I'll also say that I don't actually recommend a 7770 as a replacement (a 7850+ would be a much better option), but rather that it would be similar performance when overclocked.

Exactly this. 7770 is somewhat underrated, but its about 20% quicker than a 6850. I think people forget the 12.11s worked on all 7*** cards, not just the top/mid end ones :)
