Road Cycling Essentials

First ride on my road bike after taking it apart for a clean a few months ago, replacing the threaded forks with carbon threadless, new headset, new cranks, new stem and bars.

And i couldnt be more frustrated, it felt awful, really hollow, overly twitchy, braking was awful and shifting was awful (after i paid the freaking shop to set it up because i wanted it to be perfect instead of the 'alright' it was when i did it last time)

I think my wheels are shot too, front definitely isnt true anymore and the rear seems to have play as i can feel it vibrating on rough patches

Well I've recruited another friend into the cycling family. Its his first ride tomorrow. Started off as two people. Now we have got 6 :D

I've let him choose the route so he can have no complaints! The plan is to break off from him at around 20mi and continue to do 60mi.

If you ever find yourself in SW on your Triban and fancy a ride give me a shout. :)

I'd like to ride with more people off here. Don't really fancy joining some cliquey, elitist cycling club.

yeah an ocuk ride would be fun! :) i would be a bit out of place with jeans and trainers tho, but hey ho ;) catch me if you can :p

good quote i found today..

"At 40mph+ on 120psi slicks with a contact patch smaller than a postage stamp your relationship with the tarmac is an intimate one"

Awesome effort, I'd be delighted to get up to that sort of level.

I purposefully had a relaxed commute in to work yesterday as I knew I'd want to push myself on the Turbo in the evening, it paid off! I'm sure you can get up to that level if you commit yourself, I'm not massively fast due to weight but I do have power on my side. I've only been cycling properly since March 2012.

Eugh, early morning sufferfest. Blew up half way through!

I hate that feeling, you can see an interval coming up and just know you don't have the legs/lungs/energy in general for it - horrid horrid feeling! Which Sufferfest did you do? I'm looking forward to the new video they're releasing, it's their longest one to date at 1hr 40 mins  Feel the burn! :D

I went along to our local club for the first time in May last year to a 10mile TT they were holding, you can ride 2 races before committing to a membership due to insurance purposes. I really enjoyed myself and ended up doing 3 criterium races with the club as well as some of the winter sportive rides. Everyone was really welcoming (despite the fact I was riding and wearing everything bought through Wiggle and it's a very "local" community with local shops for local people :p)

Just realised I've started every paragraph with the word "I", so how are all YOU doing this fine day?

Maybe it's just a London thing. Everyone is a bit of an A-hole down these parts! I get verbally abused so much by total strangers it doesn't make sense.:(

Just wait until you discover the allure of lycra!:D

It was the wretched - bit of a daft choice as the first to do post an FTP bump given the way there's virtually no breaks, but was short of time this morning!

1hr 40mins sounds fun :)

Very good effort then, were you fairly active before that? If I could get to 280W I'd be above 4W/kg which would be pretty solid.

Can someone explain the rewards to me? What do I have to pledge to get all of the stuff? :S
