Ebay Fraud/Scams etc

Also you could make another paypal account and remove all bank accounts and cards from your main account.

The PPG all the money over to the new PP account then withdraw it. That way even if they open a case PP will be the ones without the money and not you.

Yeah a friend of mine ALWAYS does this with anything he sells. And i'm sort of with him rather see PayPal lose out due to their siding with buyer EVERY time.

However sometimes they will hold the funds randomly and you can't access them till you have feedback from buyer. It did it to me last items I sold.... LUCKILY right before the hold I withdrew most of the money to my bank so it was sat holding only the last payment out of 6 things I sold. Like 10 quid or something.

Quoting my self from a thread made in December here, but here is some free advice :)

You can change your account settings to prevent such buyers from seeing your listings.

Log into your ebay account and go to 'My Ebay' > 'My Account'

There are loads of options on the left, but click on 'Site preferences' and then 'Buyer Requirements' and click edit. Just set everything up as you would like it

I only did this from the horror stories I read on here. Granted its not 100% fool proof but its better than the standard settings most ebay accounts have

With phones, look at what the recycling places are charging as you might get less but you don't get eBay hassle or fee's etc.

Even if the buyer comes to your house to collect the item, it is best to get them to sign something as evidence as I have heard cases of people doing that and then claiming to ebay they never went to pick it up! Without any evidence it is your word against theirs again.
Signing something won't help, you need the tracking number if it goes to dispute. Don't accept paypal if they are collecting in person.

Make sure the items are tracked is a definite must do with eBay!
Take a picture with a note with your username on, so take a picture of the serial number's and have your username written down on a piece of paper. Ebay can't not accept that as who else would write down someone elses username?

Ebay is redicolously easy to scam people from! I also hate how you are pretty much forced to use PayPal and they charge you a rediclous amount on top!

If its just mobile phones, check out what you'll get for them on the cashback sites like envirofone. Being a classic never-touching-ebay-with-someone-else's-10-foot-pole person, I offloaded a couple of old phones there and it was a very quick and easy thing to do. From what I understand, you will likely get more on ebay, but at least you can set a minimum price using the cashback sites.

I found a comparison site via the moneysavingexpert.com forums - envirofone were the best price for the two I was flogging.

Serial number for definite, with all relevant timestamps/proof its your picture. Then you're covered against them sending a different broken item back for a refund.

You basically need to cover every angle as a scammer will be thinking of everything he can to try and con an item.

no one in their right mind would accept paypal for an item they were having physically picked up.

This doesn't prove anything unfortunately. Just because you have a photo of an item with one serial number doesn't mean you didn't ship them a completely different one..that will be Paypal's take on it anyway.

It is almost impossible to prove that you sent somebody a specific item..the only real option is to film the whole process from boxing the item up to taking it down the post office, ensuring the parcel never goes out of shot..who is going to go to those kind of lengths?!

yeah that's why now days really is a feedback game,

discriminating against low feedback buyers is just going to happen now cause of eBay's foo bar policies. Then people complain at sellers being dicks, when really it's eBay.

I'm going to cancel anyones bid I don't like the look of, simple as that really.

Doubt someone's going to bother scamming you for a £40 phone . It's far more likely that they where looking for a certain older phone and google showed up eBay

If they scam you you post their address on here and we all post them poo.
