Hey guys, looking to make my computer quiet or as silent as possible whilst just doing regular desktop stuff and when I leave it on over night. Would also be nice for it to be quieter when gaming because my xfx 7950 is really loud when pushed, although I wear a headset when gaming so doesn't bother me much.

Currently running the gpu and ram at stock and only the cpu is overclocked to 4.2ghz.

Looking for new case, fans and maybe a new cpu cooler and fan controller if needed.

Have you identified what is making the most noise ? stop all fans and start them one by one, to see what is the loudest, boot into bios if you don't want do this while in windows

water coolers are not known for their silence. a large air cooler would be the easiest way to get it silent.

noctua nh-d14 is always a winner. my prolimatech megahalems with 2 120mm apache blacks is literally silent and keeps the temps at low 80's ([email protected] 1.39v)

a silenced case may be a good idea but my thinking is a case with good airflow (lots of low rpm fans) will keep things quieter than a restricted case.

you could try this

YOUR BASKET
1 x Foam Silencing Kit - Corsair Carbide 300R £24.98
Total : £29.98 (includes shipping : £4.16).

Think it's mainly the fans in the case, the h80i ok. My 300R and H80i can go to a friend for £60, he is saving to build a pc (he still got a stock HP he bought 4-5 years ago)

I've heard great things about these coolers:
YOUR BASKET
1 x Phanteks PH-TC14PE CPU Cooler - Silver (Socket 775 / 1155 / 1156 / 1366 / 2011 / AM2 / AM2+ / AM3 / FM1 / FM2) £66.98
1 x Alpenföhn K2 Mount Doom CPU Cooler (Socket 775 / 1155 / 1156 / 1366 / 2011 / AM2 / AM2+ / AM3 / FM1 / FM2) £59.99
1 x Noctua NH-D14-2011 Dual Radiator CPU Cooler with PWM Fans (Socket LGA2011) £59.99
Total : £198.96 (includes shipping : £10.00).

For the Noctua would definitely switch the fans, would like to keep a colour coded interior either blue, white or black.

The 300R is a good case. You could buy some sound dampening material to stick to the chassis. Maybe change the CLCs fans to something like the Corsair SP120s. Have you used lucidMVP to make sure that the GPUs only kick in for gaming? If you use MSI afterburner you can OC the GPU and set custom fan speed profiles

low 80s? Max Tcase is 72.6°C for the 2500k :p

Downloading afterburner as we speak. I actually have 2 SP120 on the h80i, 2 AF140 on the front, 1 AF140 on the top and 1 AF120 on the side.

Might try removing the top and side one to see if there's any difference. The only time the sound really gets annoying is when I'm doing work and my room is completely silent. Also at night when I leave the pc on it can be annoying.

Ive got a Phanteks PH-TC14PE cooling a 3570k at 4.5ghz in an Antec P280 case along with 5 case fans which are controlled by a Bitfenix recon controller and at normal desktop use its pretty much silent.
When I start gaming my Gigabyte 7950 makes the most noise but its overclocked quite a bit.

The SP120 fans on the h80i were noisy, so I swapped them and I think I only lost around 5°C.
A hell of a lot quieter now.

I should have been clearer, I took the stock SP12L fans off and replaced with
2 x Nexus BASIC D12SL-12
In Push/Pull Exhaust instead of (IIRC) the recommended Push/Pull Intake as it then wont affect the rest of the case air flow as much and I'm not after the absolute lowest temps anyway.

An i7 920 @ 4.2GHz just hitting the low 60°C range during Prime 95 is more than cool enough for me.
With a 3570k it'd be expected to be even cooler.

I would put the AF120s you've got on to the h80i.
If it is satisfactory the get two more or two AF120 quiet editions and put them in the case or on the H80i.

The Scythe Gentle Typhoons 1850rpm are silent on my H80, they are always set to run at 100% too!

They have a high static pressure. Keeps my FX-4170 at 58'c while at 4.8Ghz with 1.48Vcore.
