Anybody with a mondeo estate, A4 estate, Vectra estate or Saab 9-3 estate?

Bit of a long shot, but if anybody has either I'd love to know the height in the boot from floor to roof if you've got one.

I need an estate under £7k, automatic, but with enough height to fit a 670mm box in the back.

I know it sounds random but If it can't fit a photo booth in an estate then I'm probably going have to have a van for work which I don't particularly want even though it will be a lot more practical, I just don't want to be driving a van on a daily basis if I can help it.

I'm working all weekend so was just hoping somebody with the above cars would have a spare 30 seconds this weekend. Will be free to go out Wednesday and Thursday next week but I'd like to have narrowed down my search by then so I can find some examples to go and look at next week.

I just bought a.mk3 Mondeo estate for someone tonight. If I can remember to take a tape with me in the morning ill measure it for you (I'm assuming the mk4 is bigger if anything)

The a4 really isn't very big in the back, I've a feeling 640 might be doable I terms of actual height but you'd never get it in through the opening iirc

Thanks that would be brilliant :)

Yes the A4 was a bit of a hopeful one, its the I'd prefer to drive but doesn't seem too practical.

Mondeo:

Opening height circa 760mm, width @ bottom 1100mm (1000 realistically is what you'll fit through if it's a box), @ top 800mm

Interior height seats flat circa 800mm

Hope this helps a bit! It's gone now so I can't take any more i'm afraid

If I remember, I can measure my Dad's 57 plate Saab tomorrow for you.

Excellent thanks :) been offered one of these for quite a good deal from a guy I know.

Just get a cheapo Berlingo, save yourself 6k :p

That would mean spending all my time driving a berlingo when 80% of the time I font need this price of equipment in. One of the other photographers has a van and I've spend the last week driving it, really don't fancy doing 25k a year in one!
These are suprisingly tricky to find! Could only find the Vectra so far.

vectra - 767mm (page 310)

Thanks that's quite a good size actually!

FWIW you'll get a better A6 for the money than A4, and they will easily fit a box that size in the back.

Tbh I hadn't even considered the A6 as I presumed they would be a lot more expensive than an A4. The bigger the better really :)

Brilliant thank you!! :)

Once you realise that the Saab 9-3 isn't really an Audi/BMW competitor and therefore isn't to be compared with them, and you instead look at what else is around for the same money, the 9-3 comes out as a really rather decent used buy. You can get some suprisingly new cars for the sort of money you'd twice as much of in order to buy an A4 or 3 Series of the same age.

Yeah there is a lot of car for the money in the saab. Quite like the look of them and should be am improvement on the vectra hatchback I currently use. Is the 1.9 diesel the same as the vectra cdti? Very happy with the economy on the vectra.

Are Saabs ok for spare parts with them not being around?

Not sure if you care for the brand, but when I was looking with similar requirements, the Skoda Octavia and bizarrely Fabia estates were huge in the boot space, particularly in height.

Nope don't really care about the brand. As long as its no worse to sit in than a Vectra (which isn't particularly hard) for long journeys as at times I ca spend around 6-7 hours a day driving.

I do thing having a VAG diesel would be a good idea as they seem pretty reliable.

Interesting about the Fabia, I didn't even know they did an estate.

Ah, missed that bit. I'm sure an Octavia would be fine for that though.... ?

Unsure on the superb height, but I can't imagine it's terrible.

Certainly I found that a4/3 series tourings of any generation were really low heights, much like volvos infact.
