Poundland Girl Wins Forced Labour Ruling

Part time workers beware...

http://johnnyvoid.wordpress.com/2012/11/11/give-up-work-workfare-new-dwp-guidelines/

What has not been publicly announced is that the DWP expects some part time workers to also be sentenced to the scheme. When Universal Credit is introduced, allegedly next year, part time workers will be expected to constantly look for more work or better paid work in order to receive in work benefits such as Child Tax Credits and Housing Benefits.

This isnt new, and has been announced long ago. essentially the responsibility will be that everyone should strive to earn the equivalent of a full time week at minimum wage.

see this link from 2011 for example.

www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/women-targeted-as-part-time-workers-told-91389

so to be clear, this only impacts people working short hours or for low wages that reduce their income below the minimum wage level, and is to ensure the taxpayer isnt gamed as they are under the current tax credit system.

someone needs to send ids back to school. as 200k isnt 50% of 800k.

Someone needs to learn not to mix their statistics. 200k is the number who are now employed, the 50% of 800k figure is the number who have come off jsa. you dont have to get a job to decide not to claim jsa.

With workfare likely to crumble, it’s time to get our cudgels out for another nasty piece of work compulsion looming on the horizon – the expansion of ‘conditionality’ to those receiving in-work benefits.

Universal Credit (UC) will replace benefits such as working tax credit and housing benefit. Part-time workers, low-waged workers and self-employed people whose profits are deemed too low will now face sanctions and harassment.

true enough.

just the way ids said it thats all. again political spin as the whole in work doesnt mean jobs that will last more than a couple of weeks just who was working when the figures where collected.

Just out of interest, how do you think the benefits system in this country should work? you have made a lot of criticisms, but nothing as an alternative. What is your proposal?

:(

That is scary, practically everyone I know down here is working part time, there's just nothing full time available, most companies only offer 16 hours for unskilled work.

Yes it is scary and must be stopped. I'd be grateful if you would VOLUNTEER to let all those you know about these crackpot plans.

Do you plan to use the usual approach to deal with those who dont share your ideal? What happens to individual freedom and rights? do we follow the established pattern of communist countries in that as well?

Re education camps will work effectively for those unwilling to better society through the shared sacrifice of personal property so that everyone can live good and healthy lives.

heh must have missed that when i first read it. maybe i should try that the next time i sign on, not fill out the forms and say its early days and that they cant cut my jsa as its only off 2 weeks worth of figures :P

just done some quick maths and if they have spent £3 billion on the work program, they could have paid 200k people £15k for 12 months to litter pick or something and have had a great effect than the work program.

Yeah it's all just shifty and stinks, if you look at who owns ingeus and who "they know" it all just reeks to me.

*******s tbh... also that cutting people out of part time work too. WOW NICE ONE!!

Being sent on workfare? Tell us where using the Name & Shame form.

Please note, we are in the process of updating this page. If you notice anything that needs changing, or know of a workfare provider not listed, please use our Name and Shame form or email us with the details and as much evidence as possible.

The tide is turning and following massive public pressure, we are pleased to say the following companies and organisations say they will no longer take part in workfare:
◦TK Maxx
◦Sainsbury’s
◦Waterstones
◦Shelter
◦Marie Curie
◦99p stores
◦Maplin
◦Oxfam
◦Mind - see also their latest statement here
◦BHS
◦Burger King – although they have only mentioned one of the five workfare schemes
◦HMV
◦Boots
◦Body Shop
◦Holiday Inn
◦Cancer Research
◦Sense
◦The Children’s Society
◦Wilkinson’s
◦PDSA

The following have suspended their involvement. We look forward to them confirming that they will stop involvement in any of the government’s workfare schemes:
◦Matalan

The particularly misleading ones
◦Poundland have said they will pull out of the Work Progamme but remain in the Work Experience Scheme
◦Tesco are still involved in the scheme
◦Argos – despite telling the Guardian that they had suspended involvement, they are now back at it
◦Superdrug – see their tweet which claimed they’d suspended involvement but we’ve since has evidence they are using the Work Experience scheme again
◦Scope suspended its involvement in February but is now back at it. See here and here.

Pizza Hut say they have the scheme under review. Age UK is investigating.

The following have stated that they are not involved:
◦Miss Selfridge
◦Mr Gleam wrote to tell us that they have never been part of the scheme.
◦Friends of the Earth – see their statement on Twitter

Hold them to it!
Ask in your local stores to confirm that no one is on DWP “Work Experience”, Mandatory Work Activity, the Community Action Programme, Sector Based Work Academies, or Work Programme placements: all of these are forced unpaid work, or workfare schemes. Let us know if you hear otherwise.

Yeah the providers think it's wonderful..

"Providers can earn between £3,700 and £13,700 per person helped into work, depending how hard it is to give support to an individual, with an initial payment of between £400 and £600."

What it's really all about..

Fake Self-Employment in the Work Programme

Long-term unemployed on the Work Programme are being steered away from jobs, and instead told they can claim more in benefits by registering as self-employed than they could on the dole. Clients are sometimes told it doesn't matter if they don't have a viable business idea because they can simply claim working tax credits instead of unemployment benefits. What's more the private firms which deliver the scheme are getting taxpayer funded bonuses in the process.

Fairly shocked when listening to this driving home for work the other sunday.

If there's any truth to it, be nice to know.

Was checking the Universal Jobmatch website today, the Governments own webby for those on JSA, and I saw jobs on there for my local ASDA.

What changed? the free labour has been shut down and places are finding themselves short of staff and have opened up full time jobs.

Oddly l have searches set up with ASDA, and received an email yesterday for the first time in months.it really is nothing short of criminal. Can't wait for it all to kick off next week about the loss of the AAA rating, should be interesting.
