So we're plan on mounting an LCD TV (eg: 26") into a recess. For examples sake the recess is 90cm wide, by 70cm high, by 20cm deep. So I'd like to mount a bracket on the back of this recess, and put the TV in so it sits in the precise middle... Ideally so it can by pivoted left/right too.

Do TV follow a standard mounting procedure or do they vary by make/model?

Any insight/advice appreciated!

The distance between each hole will generally be the same as they will all be a vesa mount.

However, the location will vary slightly between TVs however they're generally in the middle. Most brackets will allow you to move the TV a little though.

Your TV will have something called a VESA fixing pattern.(phonetically pronounced Vee-Za in case you are talking to a supplier). There are several sizes of VESA mount. The dimensions are given in millimetres, and the fixing holes are usually at the 4 corners of a square or a rectangle centred across the width of the TV. There's more about the various VESA fixing sizes here

So, as long as the TV plate and wall plate of your swing out bracket aren't off-set relative to each other then you can mount your bracket centrally and the TV will be central too.

Thanks...

And how does the TV fit onto the mounting system? I'm cleary looking at this because I'm working in an enclosed recessed area...

Cant comment on all brackets, But generally you'll have one plate that you'll screw on to the back of the TV, and one that you'll screw on to the wall. The TV then hooks on to the one on the wall.

And by hooks... that means you drop it on from about an inch or so above? ie: If all you have is one inch of space vertically, you can still connect the TV on the the mounting plate? You don't need loads of work room/height?
