New TV time - around £1000

£999 from John Lewis at Brent Cross.

people have been getting it price matched @ john lewis for £899, look on av forums for more info, you can still get it price matched up to 28 days iirc after purchase.

as for calibrating, you never do that to a plasma whilst it is "settling in", normally keep the brightness and contrast low for the first 200-400 hours of viewing, avoid black bars and still images or icons/logos for long periods of time in the settling in period too.

then you would need to run a calibration test using the guides over at av forums after the settling in period because no 2 panels are the exact same, what works for johnny down the road will not work for you.

better off just leaving it stock tbh rather than going to all that hassle, just use the movie mode and be done with it.

as for the size we have a 51" D8000 (samsungs top of the range panel in 2011) and i think it looks small now, when we got it we thought it looked big.

I've claimed the glasses, just trying to find out which retailer to quote the price from as the ones I've found seem to be online one ones.

Iirc it is a Panasonic store and the rules are any Panasonic store will match another. You need to find out which store has it for £899. Get their number and go into john Lewis and phone your local Panasonic store and give them the number of the cheaper one to price match it. John Lewis will then follow suit and price match their price match.

Congrats on the tv, my dad was looking for the exact same model (a certain very popular and huge online retailer) had it for around £829 not long ago but it's no longer in stock. I have the sammy 46es6710 in my room and don't regret it one bit, fantastic quality and the tv itself is stunning.

I'm blown away by it so far. I watched Bourne Legacy today and I was very impressed with the detail. Then on to the football which looked fantastic and now I'm sat at my PC but my GF is watching Puss In Boots in the background and it looks totally stunning. Even she noticed a huge difference and that's saying something.

I think the crunch for me is that I'm now wanting to watch films again and go find new ones to enjoy more than I used to.

Now to choose and amp and speaker package. :)

I got the p50gt50 a couple of a weeks ago, I got it price matched with total digital in Birmingham and i'm in Norwich for £900.

If you want some fairly decent settings for normal mode and a pro mode have a look here http://www.avforums.com/forums/plasma-tvs/1742546-panasonic-gt50-owners-thread-part-7-a-3.html , scroll down a bit and you will see them. Normal mode becomes even better and is my day mode and pro mode becomes is excellent and perfect for night time.

Hopefully getting my 3D glasses this week.

Good choice, I paid £1400 for mine about 6 months ago.

well john lewis were price matching it for £1200 8 months ago, i know because i nearly bought one, decided the D8000 @ £769 (again price matched it was £1200 in john lewis at the time) was a much much better deal. you should always do a google shopping search then request a price match with john lewis, that way you get the free 5 year warranty and he best price available.

I am now tempted to get the GT50 for around the £800 mark when the new sets hit the stores it should drop from £900 to £800 you would think in other retailers then get JL to price match it.
