Are next gen highend GPU's going be priced like the Titan ??

No point comparing it to a veyron though as VW sold each veyron at a $2.3m loss just so they could have the fastest production car in the world.

The materials cost would be quite negligible in relation to the cost of the card.

The materials do cost more but not enough is used to actually make an appreciable difference in the cost to manufacture.

The build materials thing, to put it bluntly is just a trick to make people think they are getting their monies' worth.

Guys, I'm no petrol head but you can surely see my point.......nobody needs to spend a million Sterlings on a car.....but plenty do.

Every brand has its flagship. ;)

Spoffle....you could just replace the word "CARD" in your post with the word "CAR" and my point should stand ;):D

For that price they could have gold plated the heat sink. Cheap bastids!

Hmmm... thinking I might look into gold plating later...

Nah!, they dont need to, they just stick the words "Super Computer" into adverts all over the interwebz and all the people who havn't done any research about the card thinks Wow! that must be brilliant, i gotta get me one of those :D

Not too pleased with the prices of gpus these days. Seem to be getting lesser performance increases for more money.

Bought the 8800gtx back in the day for £440 & it was epic! Decent upgrade over the previous cards.

Bought the 4870x2 for £330 at launch. Thats £330 for DUAL card that was top dog at the time.

Now its £800+ for single & dual cards. Notice how the price jumped up on the gtx690 back to £840 as its a faster card instead of titans price dropping to the £740 area.

Even if we say the gtx680 is £400, the jump from gtx580 to gtx680 is so much smaller than the just of the predecessor of the 8800gtx to the 8800gtx.

The ironic thing is that a lot of games dont even take advantage of the cards, mainly playing a lot of console ports. Were in a recession yet paying more money than ever for gpus that justify their price tag less & less.

I wouldnt mind upgrading from my gtx560 (actually had a gtx580 but got bored) but cant justify any card right now. Closest is the 7970 at £300 but requires 2 free games i want to help sweeten the deal. But still not buying. Ill wait for the gtx780 with fingers crossed.

A few rich people are evidence of this.

Some people have pre-ordered 1-4x Titans...

its those people who pay the silly prices that give NVIDIA the right to charge STUPID amounts.

If people refused to spend that much... then guess what? The prices would drop to a level where people wouldn't mind spending that much... But noooo some people out there go a spend obseen amounts for not very much just to be better than the rest.. Its those peoples fault that we have to fork out more each time we upgrade.

FAO Jokester... This post is not a personal attack on ANYONE, and nore was the previous.

everything is expensive when it first comes out,it will soon drop in price over time, just have to be patient

I also suspect Nvidia are testing the water to see if there is a market for such a high end card.

Its been interesting to see the reaction to Titan. Intel do it with their top end processors and nobody bats an eyelid.

Personally I think its great. You pay your money and make your choice. Its not like there isn't a choice.

Awesome post, every tier is catered for.

Titan is more akin to 3960x...

Isn't this the same with housing? cars? home cinema equipment? etc etc.Ie, if people never never chased house prices ever higher then prices would always have been affordable?
With some things, if they can't charge x amount for them they simply don't get made, the price won't necessarily be cheaper, they just won't get made :)

I never understand these kinds of posts. You are more than entitled to your opinion but evey time Titan is mentioned you go into one. Surely if someone wants to pay obseen amounts, that is their choice? I can see these dropping in price when the yields are higher or more plentifull but for now, there isn't many about and hence the premium price.

You own a 7970 and yet you could have saved money by getting a 7950 or even a 7870 would have surficed, but when someone buys a Titan, this disagrees with your way of thinking.

As for being a personal attack, it is a personal attack on anyone who has purchased a Titan or two or threee or four or more. I doubt your rantings will bother them though.

Well not really, the materials don't do anything functional, with cars, the exotic materials often are functional, but even the aesthetic ones are different too because with these cards, those exotic materials are nothing but a token gesture, cost little to implement and serve no functional purpose.

Don't get me wrong, they do look great, but they aren't enough for people to use them as justifications for the high prices, because they don't come close to it, as I said, token gesture to trick people in to thinking they are getting their monies' worth.

Honestly Gregster, I think you need to cool it as much as you think others need to cool it.

The post you quoted doesn't look like he's going in to one to me, and big deal, he's criticising you. I think Titan is ridiculous, and its price is offense, but why should you care? If you want it, buy it and don't get bent out of shape that people are saying things you don't like.

I don't care. I have read enough of Diagro's rantings about the price and a couple of his posts were removed and he is still going on. Say it once and move along instead of whinging at every oportunity.

Maybe a little short sighted on my part, but as long as I can step up to the next tier of performance for the prices that I've been paying since I started pc gaming (which I still can), then I'm not too worried. It's probably worse for those that want to benchmark and stay up to date with the latest and greatest.

I have sort of been like this to an extent but I just can't afford to keep doing it nowadays. I am tempted to get another 670 in SLI and hopefully that would tie me over for at least 2 years if not slightly longer.

My post is about how people who pay these prices will give Nvidia the right to charge them in the first place...
I own a 7970 because i have a 30" monitor ... a 7950 or a 7870 that you say would be good enough simply wouldn't in my case...

Someone buying a titan at the current price is what i'm disagreeing with... its a 30% Increase in performance at over 2.5x the price. Its down right rude to the PC gamers out there that Nvidia thinks they can do this... Unfortunately people will buy them thus nvidia will charge the silly prices.

No its not a personal attack, its a General attack on anyone looking to give in to Nvidia and pay the silly prices.

I wont stop, I find it offensive that Nvidia see's fit to sell a product of this type at that price.

if it was say £650 then i wouldn't have an issue.

Don't like my Views on the subject? Then ignore me and don't reply

What's it got to do with you what other people spend on things they want?

Nothing. Move along.

Well as a 7950 is clock for clock around 5% slower then it would have done actually. If it ain't playable on the '50 it ain't playable on the '70.

Everything, if people refused to pay the silly prices then nvidia wouldnt sell them at said silly prices as there would be no market for it at the price point.

Simply...
if people willing to pay stupid price = Seller can sell at stupid price
If people not willing ti pay stupid price = seller will reduce price

You cant get the same performance from an overclocked 7950 as an overclocked 7970.
