There's a voice that keeps on calling me.
Hi guys n gals.

Im a bit of a noob when it comes tp networking so apologies if the following is a dumb q.

I currently have a virgin super hub in router mode. Wireless is ok on it but as i mainly need the giga bit ports its not such a great deal. But ive been given an asus n56 u and reading around they are the danglies.

I believe i can hook the asus up to the router to extend my network, now if im correct this would improve my wireless performance and give me the extra wired network ports i require. I really need 2 gigabit ports and 4 10/100mb ports.

Am i off the mark here or is my thinking right? The asus would connect to one of the network ports on the superhub? And finally give me better wireless performance??

Thanks for any advice.

Just put the superhub into modem mode and let the Asus be the router, job done.

I see you need more ports also. Well get a switch as stated or whats your old router like if you have one. Most operate as a switch even 100mb would give you some extra ports.

Also this

I would also look at the firmware on N56U. I use the Padavans firmware much better than the original from ASUS. Many more or easier features.

Visit this link for the firmware.

2 gigabit ports and 4 10/100 ports. Its amazing how much stuff is networked lol.

Well unless you want to spend a lot of money on a router with more than 4 Gbit ports then your only decent choice is using a switch.

So I cant just use the asus as an extender then?

You should be able to if you put the ASUS in Access Point mode.
Connect a LAN port on the SH to a LAN port on the ASUS. You might want to put them on the same subnet for easy management. If the SH is 192.168.0.1, make the ASUS 192.168.0.2.

The Superhub is complete and utter rubbish in comparison to the Asus when it comes to its router capabilities, not even close. Just buy an extension lead and another Gigabit switch!

My Sh works well tbh. But my main gear is wired hence why I dont have that many problems with the SH.

Having slept on it, I think i am just going to plumb the Asus in as a router and find a powerpoint for a switch.

Thanks for the advice fella's!
