Poundland Girl Wins Forced Labour Ruling

What about the bedroom tax? I suppose levying a fine of £80 on poor people and disabled families will actually help with self-realisation that they are a burden on society?

Or is it really an aid to social progression and mobility??

(It would help if someone checked on the number of 1 bedroom houses, how many have been built, are being built, and will be)

/wink

The 'bedroom tax' is not a tax in any way, shape or form. it is a reduction in benefits based on need rather than just paying the cost of your council house regardless...

I hope you never get fired and find yourself unable to get a job, I'll bet you have some smart arsed remark about having the right experience and qualifications to walk into another job.

I think you'd have a different view if the shoe was on the other foot.

I've done the whole minimum wage employment thing rather than claim in the past.

Do note, however, that I don't actually support workfare. it is a necessary consequence of our fundamentally flawed benefit system, and would not be necessary if the system was better designed.

For anyone who wants to get in on the action..

Join Boycott Workfare on 18-24 March for a week of action against workfare exploiters everywhere. Take action in a town or city near you, join in online and show all those who profit from forced labour that we mean it when we say “if you exploit us, we will shut you down”.

Is this one of those authoritarian lefty things where if you can't win an argument on merit you resort to rioting and abuse of the rights of others as an alternative? if so count me out.

Not everyone has that luxury. I've applied for 10 maybe 15 jobs over the past week and do you know how many replies or interviews I've had, zero.

Even trying to chase up applications to find out where I am going wrong all I get is "we don't discuss applications over the phone" or "such a person is busy at the moment we will call you back" etc..

It's not as simple as just getting a minimum wage job, I would gladly work for minimum wage in whatever job I was offered.

Just riles me up when people whinge about "paying for people on benefits".

http://www.reddit.com/r/unitedkingd...is_my_grand_prize_for_working_in_argos_for_4/

The grand prize for doing 4 weeks unpaid shelf stacking work at Argos, naff all.

He got a certificate and a trip back to the job centre, no job offer, nothing. Why give him a job when they can send him back to the job centre and wait for the next mug to come and work for a month, repeat, .........., profit.

All this does is fudges the numbers and the multi million pound corporation gets free labour for a month.

But who cares, he is taking money out of your pockets, what a scumbag /s

It's not even a recognised one, anyone can print off something like that, its funny because it says they are proud to help him get back into work, he didn't even get an interview out of it.

Taking the mick or what? what next? 4 gold stars or even if you're really good maybe you could have a Blue Peter badge.

A blue peter badge is worth something though it will get you into places for free. All that's happening here is that the powers that be have decided to compete with the cheap labour in China and India by turning back the clocks to the slave trade and not pay people at all.

its the fact they offered possible jobs and didnt even give the time to interview the guy. not that id believe this offer if i had it made to me, but its just a joke.

I'm all for bringing back a kind of facility for the long term (sponger) unemployed, make them sew up mailbags and fishing nets then give them bed and board. A sort of workhouse.
People would lower their standards if their benefits would be cut after a year and they'd be forced into a facility for the unemployable. There would be none of this "better off on benefits" crap, people would take part time jobs and lower their standard of living.

Is there any difference in this and slavery? This is what the black slaves got bread and board for working all day.You really need to read up on the horrors of the workhouse and why it was abandoned.

Anyway how do you lower your standards on JSA and can you point out someone who is better off on benefits with JSA? You do realise they get £71 a week to live on including travel for interviews and internet bills etc not including sky high prices of oil for heating. There is no one out there on JSA living a life of riley. You have just fallen for tory propaganda who want to see JSA scrapped and workhouses brought back. The only people who can lower thier standards on benefits is the mothers with 4-9 kids who are raking in a fortune on child support. The rest are down as being sick/disabled i suppose you can put them into workhouses too?

Its the rich who will own the workhouses and make millions. How about giving the unemployable some land and saying right here you go, you do not want to be part of capitalist society and are worthless to it so go elsewhere and support yourself. The problem is society is set up on purpose to deny them this right which humans had for thousands of years. Most of it will be green belt/owned by the queen or tories and you will end up on the street to starve which is the intention.

I think the intention is to get you into the position where you can afford to rent (or get the state to rent for you) the houses they own. The beauty of that is that they can not only shaft the lower classes they can start shafting the middle classes too.

Didn't he say "out of job", not "low paid job".

After all these years, you still struggle to answer the question. Don't you?

:)

To be honest I find the whole "reducing" benefits if you happen to have an empty room disgusting. Thousands of houses have been sold off at a discount worsening the whole problem. The shortage forces people out of social housing into the private sector and they inflate the rents and make a fortune.

People are crying out for work, get em building social housing and cheap first time buyer homes. At least then the rent from the social housing stays in the loop and folk are in work.

Shortly we will be in the situation where if you live in social housing you will be driven out of the family home and moved around like cattle if a family member leaves home or dies.

Meanwhile if you're an MP, Joe public will pay for your second home while you rent your first out. Its sickening really

one thing that does tickle me about all of these stories is how labour arnt saying much of anything on it, apart from talking about the future jobs fund and iv not heard any of them say anything about that since last year.

Oh man, you've said things here that really hit home, someone who actually gets it, this is something I always wanted to say but could never get it right and you did it in a few sentences.
Personally i'd rather be in the gutter before being exploited, slavery must be fought and this Government must be stopped. I applaud you sir. ;)
