Just wondering if anyone else has problems sleeping?

For the majority of my life, sleep has never been an issue. I could have as much or as little as I liked, anywhere (floor, bed, boat plane, name it and I'd sleep like a log) with lovely lucid dreams.

For the past couple months however, I've been having trouble getting off to sleep, feeling like I'm dying (heart rate SKYROCKETS, feeling of doom etc) just as I get to sleep which wakes me up with a start.

When I do get to sleep I'm troubled by incredibly (downside of a rich imagination? :p) vivid and depressing dreams. (I've always been able to remember dreams)

I mean top level depressing dreams, which give me a terrible nights sleep. They are so vivid that sometimes I wake up in a dead sweat, not knowing if I'm awake or still dreaming.

Anyone else have problems sleeping? Anyone over such problems, as I'm finding the lack of sleep to be a major challenge. I'm waking up with low energy which is impacting on my day massively.

GP. YOur heart rate should not sky rocket before sleep.

Mine does, I know why as well.

The best thing to do is not think about it, it's going to happen one day - not much we can do it about it.

Just enjoy it while it lasts, it's completely out of our control.

Have you got any pre-bedtime rituals, i.e. staying off of the computer and TV for at least an hour before bed, stop drinking caffeine several hours before bed, read a book before going to sleep?

exercise will generally aid a good nights sleep, i've been training for a marathon for a while now and i sleep like a baby .. as advised before though if you are having issues with your heart rate i'd see a GP before initiating an exercise regime.

Op, best go talk to your GP, i've been unable to get a good nights sleep for years, did take sleeping tablets but had a weird experience with them, it's a nightmare, even turned to drink to get a good kip but I still wake about 3am then unable to get back sleep.
Are you anxious about anything, any worries? Anxiety and depression can cause major sleep depravation.

I'd rather not turn it medical and have it shut down, but I'm going to consider seeing a GP at some stage if it continues.

Some bugger for a laugh spiked a friends drink with a viagra pill once, which I ended up drinking unknowing.

Now THAT played with my heart. Felt like I was dying for like two days. Sleep was impossible. Got so bad one night I called up the NHS helpline to which they said ambulance immediately. Thankfully my lady friend was around that night so she kept an eye on me, and I felt better by morning. :)

So yeah, don't take viagra. :p

you missed out the really important one: bashing one out :p

I don't masturbate. :p

Never had the need for it before, it was always a case of flop down in bed, asleep almost immediately, and wake up in the morning. This was irrespective of drunk/sober, tired/untired etc etc

Going to have to start boxing a bit more cleverly though, that's some good suggestions, thank you.

OP, do you drink a lot of alcohol?

Used to drink a fair amount, but for the past year I've been cutting down a lot. Now its roughly a bottle of wine a week, few beers here and there. Spirits I've all but cut out.

It could be stress related. I would see a doctor to be on the safe side.

I've got a lot of stress in my life from a whole number of fronts. Been a stressful few years though to be honest, so it seems unlikely this is the reason?

I have problems not sleeping. I get exhausted all the time and end up falling on the floor napping every day. It is not fun at all and stops me getting all the work I need to of done. :(

Something's obviously troubling you and your subconscious feelings are coming through when you're asleep.

Whilst keeping this off medical, try writing all your thoughts down before going to bed with the TV and PC off.

This makes little sense and you should go and have a chat with your GP.

I agree. Even if it's just to talk to someone who won't be judgmental about any issues you have, at least you will get them off your chest.

Go to the Doctor and be honest with him. He will advise the best course of action.

I have trouble sleeping sometimes when I think the white race is dying out and the country is being taken over by brown people and Muslims, then I realise it isn't and can sleep again.
