What's your policy in giving money to beggars? I think most of them are scammers or addicts so I don't give them any money but if I see one that looks legit I will buy them a coffee or a mcdonalds lunch or something like. I'll also give them cigarettes sometimes but never money.

Never given any money directly to the homeless. There are enough shelters around to give them what they need to survive, without me topping up their alcohol budget.

I thrash them with my belt/whatever I have in my hand as I mince along the path. Filthy creatures.

Shoot first then ask questions later...Oscar Pistorius style:p

On a serious note, i just tend to ignore them 99% of the time although now and again ill give them some pennies in my pockets.

I beat them with my cane.

Otherwise, ignore them. If I give money I give to a charity that gives them food or whatever rather than money they can spend on drugs or alcohol or whatever. (Not saying all homeless people are drug addicts or anything)

I don't give them anything. Working in London means that I see so many it would probably work out cheaper to live on the dole than give them all some money.

Most of the ones I see are clearly hammered, if they don't want to help themselves why should I bother?

The worst ones are the ones who get on the train, invariably smelling of drink and urine, and hang over people telling their 'story' and trying to guilt them into giving money.

most people said:
. There are enough shelters around

well there arent because people simply think there are and no one funds/donates to them

anyway just because someones surviving doesnt mean that they arent hungry or wouldn't be made ten times happier with a coffee/tea whilst sat outside all day during winter.

would hate to be homeless

I take their portrait, have a chat and find out how they ended up there, and give them some change. Either that or I walk by guiltily avoiding their gaze. It depends if I have my camera.

Ignore!

Drives me absolutely nuts in Manchester, not just homeless people, big issue sellers on every corner, charity muggers lining Market Street, random ****** asking for money "for the bus/train"

Then when you get to the comfort of your own home and switch on the TV... "Just £2 a month could help......."

Aaaaaaaarrrrrrgggggghhhhhhh

yep i have bought food, big issues and coffee's for/from homeless in the past.

And when i was a duty manager for a supermarket a while ago i used to take out the old bakery stock that didnt sell that day and hand it out to the homeless people who i passed on the way home. Only the ones that I knew hadnt tried to steal from the shop. :) stopped people stealing when they heard about it and i felt like i was doing a good deed. So win win situation.

My mother-in-law passed a beggar on her way home and decided to do something nice for him. When she got home she made up a big thermos flask of hot chocolate and took it back out to him, the guy replied "I don't like hot drinks"... Ughhh.

I got a extra cheeseburger with my McDonalds once, A homeless guy was sitting around the corner so i gave it to him.

I tend to give them the odd £5 here & there if I've got cash on me.

I see it like this, if I'm in town I'm either going out (which = loads of money wasted) - or buying stuff (Which also = money wasted usually) - so giving somebody else who has less than I do a few quid to waste on whatever they want seems only fair.

I will only give it to people who are obviously homeless & usually the ones who don't ask.

Nice one :)

I can see this thread getting closed

But anyway I don't give them anything, if I was homeless I would try rob and bank and if I got away give would be quids in if not I'm in a nice big House with clean bedding a TV three square meals a day, just no logic to them sleeping rough and begging
