Im looking to create a build with an initial upper limit of £400
Id like to create something now that is usable, but allows me space to add extra's in the next couple of months.
eventually id like to add water cooling partly for noise reduction and partly cos it looks so damn sexy.
It will be used primarily as a replacement for my xbox.

Help Please.

Thanks

Dave

Helllo and welcome to the forum.

Firstly, £400 is not going to get you a lot.
Secondly, do you have any components from an existing Pc, that you can reuse. Do you have an OS, K&M, speakers.

Thanks,
Iv got nothing from existing pc's except maybe a few 2.5in hdd's which would provide enough storage for the time being provided theres a chassis that will allow then to fit properly?
As for OS i've got win 7 so will stick with that.
mouse keyboard monitor etc is all covered.
I know my budget won't stretch far, but looking for something that may not offer me great bang for my buck now, but that offers potential to expand upon.
For example, maybe single cheap graphic's card that i can double up on later?
stuff like that?
Just to add, water cooling isn't something that im looking to do now, but would like to have the option in the future

Maybe something like this.

YOUR BASKET
1 x "BLACK OPS Cyber Warfare" AMD A10-5800K 3.80GHz DDR3 Hybrid Crossfire Quad Core Gaming PC £385.97
1 x Standard Build Systems - Approximately 5-7 working days £0
1 x No Operating System £20
1 x No Hard Drive Upgrade £0
1 x 24 MONTH WARRANTY - COLLECT & RETURN £0.01
Total : £424.58 (includes shipping : £15.50).

Looks good, the case looks straight out of a cube farm, but that can be dealt with.
I always thought you got more bang for your buck down the intel route tho?

Thanks,
looks a cracking starting point that i can add to as time goes by.
what would be your opinion on the best way to add to this?

As and when funds become available, upgrade Cpu(i5), get an aftermarket cooler so you can OC the i5. Then upgrade the Gpu.
It`s always difficult starting from scratch on a low budget. Now you have some idea what you can get for your money, have a look around to see what bargains are available.
The case I specced is a "B" grade, so if you decide to get it, check with OCUK to find out what condition it is in.

would it be worth pushing the boat out to get an i3 at the moment? also what are you thoughts on watercooled cases? i've seen some on other sites that shall remain unmentioned that look as though i could add to them relatively easily for around £60 quid

You could get something like this, it would perform pretty well in gaming. Can add an SSD and bring the price up to £420 but then you may as well just get an intel setup, since a Z77 motherboard can take an i5 later.

The i3 would be better. Realistically, you need to be looking at a budget of at least £500.
Forget about watercooling, that is something you can look at, once you have put together a decent system that is worth watercoolong.

oops forgot the dvd drive but they are £16.99

you said you had hdds you can use.

its a z77 mobo which can take an i5/i7 in the future with overclocking options.

its the exact basket im going to buy except without dvd drive and i will add a monitor.

Ok,
makes sense, £400 is my initial budget as that is what i can afford out of 1 paycheck. Think ill have to use the old plastic fantastic and stretch to an i3.

That mobo is no longer available. And I would`nt use a 2,5" hdd for my OS on a desktop, to slow.
