So me and a colleague are off to Germany for CeBIT and would very much love to have interwebs while we're out there.

With my business contract, I can get 30MB/s a day for £3 which is ok for my phone, but we ideally need to use our ipads on the go and I'm not sure how they feel about tethering.

We thought that we had it sussed with Three who offer unlimited in Europe but this sadly doesn't include tethering.

Got no problem taking out a deal while we're in Germany with a wifi hotspot or something, but unsure who does the best deal.

Anyone found a cost effective way of doing this?

Thanks,

Andy

Get a pay as you go sim card from a provider out there. Local rates, and iPads aren't locked to carriers as far as I'm aware.

Easiest way really. Then you just discard the sim afterwards or keep it for next time you go to germany.

The problem I have is that I and my colleague both have phones and both have ipads and would have liked to be able to use all at once, so tethering would be best.

I'm guessing the data on a payg sim will be quite limited too.

Surely an IT exhibition will have some sort of WIFI coverage? Free or paid for. What do all the journalists and exhibitors use? Or are you looking for coverage at all times and not just at the place itself?

WiFi is a bit sketchy and they have a devoted press area but we'd rather type up content and upload it as we're in the hall instead of walking off to the press area and setting up etc...

I think my best bet is a mobile router that takes a sim card and getting an O2 Germany sim for 40 euros for 10GB.

Best I can find it seems.

I got a sim card out there, it was free with £15 worth of credit on it already. Had the net as well.

Used it for Oktoberfest, didn't get close to using £15 even though I did a fair amount of net browsing.

Threw it into my SIM bag which has SIMS from all over the world :D

So much easier, if I am going abroad, people know what number to contact me on and it NEVER costs me. Ever... Always a free PAYG SIM with credit upon activation.

Thanks Agnes,

Yes i'm getting a Huwaei wireless 4G router from a friend in the communication business and then I've seen O2 Germany have a sim for 10GB data for 40 euros so that seems the best :)
