Please remember that any mention of competitors, hinting at competitors or offering to provide details of competitors will result in an account suspension. How come 680 price increase from £360 to £400

I would trade off the lesser performance for (IMO) better drivers.

Surely better drivers = better performance. You cannot separate the two?

NVIDIA can do what they wish really and people will buy. I have and my cards were ridiculously overpriced.

I do like the NV drives over AMD, as I used to have 6990+6970 with Eyefinity.

But given that I am getting beat by 3 x 7970s in the Heaven benchmark threads, I am left a little peeved

Its all George Osbourne's fault...

You sound like you read too many left wing sensationalist newspapers. :D

The previous Government are a lot more culpable than the present government (note: neither are exempt from blame). You only have to see Ed Balls squirming on the Opposition front bench when it's mentioned that this situation was inherited from Labour how much this point still rings true.

Fixing the roof when the sun is shining and all... but no, not Labour: they continued to borrow and spend on public services.

The problem is that in recent times it seems to be Conservative governments coming in after a period of Keynesian economics whereby spending has ballooned out of control. Eventually the balloon popped and we all come back to reality in time for a Conservative government to cut spending and bear the brunt of a public who have been almost conned into thinking that the level of public spending previously was sustainable and normal. While it is true that the global downturn fueled by the US mortgage crash has affected everyone it's also true that spending on public services was way, way out of control.

I'm not saying they're immune from criticism nor have they in hindsight done everything in a competent manner but it's just far too simplistic and convenient to just blame one man in a government when the reality is far more complex.

Personally, I don't use the NHS, have never used the DWP to date... I would rather privatise the health service and put the money back into people's pocket through reduced tax contributions and then pay as and when I do need it. You can be sure as hell that natural competition would drive standards up considerably.

Not just Nvidia products going up, there have been some hefty increases on AMD products too. Less than 3 weeks ago you could get the gigabyte windforce 7970 for £288 and now it is £336.

Probably not a coincidence that demand is being driven by games like Crysis 3 than really punish previous gen hardware and supply is taking advantage of this by increasing prices and profit margins

The only British politician that I truly respect is Caroline Lucas (Green) ... but it's always funny to see that the people with the least clue about economics are almost always the first to accuse Osbourne of not knowing how to run the economy. May not be the case with you, but almost always is.

I'm not one for giving respect to politicians, certainly not for tickling my ears. I need action to be able to see it wasn't just political spin but each to their own. I was merely laughing at seeing both economics and George Osbourne in the same sentence after the downgrade. Yes, Osbourne is cleaning up the previous party's mess, but he's not making a great job of it either.

I know what you mean though, people take the headline out of whatever daily tabloid they digest, then they become part of that problem by spreading BS. I know it's not Osbourne's fault but as he is chancellor of the exchequer, he is positioned for scrutiny regardless if it's serious or in humour :p.

I do find it funny how people come to the defence of any politician though, they lie cheat and steal (and more is being revealed daily about child interfering/sex scandals). They live off the backs of hard working people while messing up the country yet people argue from both sides like the politicians care about the people they govern. Fools will be fools though.

This, and only this. I don't even know why it's point for debate, as ocuk have been doing it ever since I've been aware of them. Money is their focus, and making as much as possible is the aim. They know people will buy the stuff regardless of what few complaints they get on the forums. End of story.

Every company does this.

Its called business. They are not going to sell at a loss. Some companies are cheaper at some things, others are cheaper elsewhere. It all depends on your suppliers, and how much money you are willing to stick through them at once. More money = better discounts.

Second paragraph is not in sync with first paragraph.

First paragraph is OK but then you start generalising politicians with they do this and they do that when they all most certainly don't. I think there's a general malaise at the moment with politics in our country which is fine but it's important not to do yourself what you said people shouldn't do in your first paragraph.

There have been no price changes regarding GTX 680 2GB versions in Denmark. The cheapest reference cards still are placed around £390 - and they have been there for the last 2-3 months.

Rusty, like there is need or point to break down every politician to conform to what you see as realism. If you can grasp what I mean, there is little need to explain. I'm not blaming all for cheating, stealing and other things, merely that as time goes by, the number is growing as our country is struggling with financial matters. That doesn't say that all aspects of government are corrupt....

I do agree that I set myself up for that not being thorough in my explanation, but as it's in the graphics cards section I didn't feel the need to :p.

I know you probably weren't but I do dislike the general arguments of "they" steal and "they" don't care when the majority don't/do respectively.

There's always a pedant like me lurking JD so beware.... :p

Every company does it, but to varying degrees. I am not a newbie, I have been in the PC game for well over 15 years, and a member of this forum for 8 years. In that time I've spent countless hours browsing various sites and made a ton of purchases. Certain companies are known for different things, ocuk is no different in the regard. Don't forget that OCUK used to have probably the worst rep of all UK stores, and have only in the last couple of years managed to shake the widespread bad feelings that the previous owner left behind. One thing that hasn't changed though is their wildly fluctuating pricing, which is arguably a tad more mercenary than other major online stores, especially with graphics cards.

I sadly agree with you as I hate generalisations. I'm lazy, so I'm glad I've got you to keep me in check from myself :D.

I'm even going to listen to you and not buy two 7970s today (LtMatt got my itchy spending trigger finger going). I game at 1330Mhz and there wouldn't be much gain from switching. So I'm buying another screen today. Either the VG278HE or the BenQ Benq XL2411T (Both 144Hz). £400 vs £240 Yes the BenQ is smaller but I had bad backlight bleeding on the Asus VG278H I had. I think I shouldn't spend £160 more for 3 inches, not sure though as I loved the size of the 27" Asus.

Don't listen to LtMatt. He is on the MSI payroll (£0.50/hour) to promote MSI OC 7970s like there's no tomorrow. If he sells one he gets a bonus so he's hardly being altruistic in his recommendation of that bloody card! :D :D :D

If you took Matt's gif posts and MSI OC 7970 posts off the forums, it would be like gutting a human being. Nothing left but an empty shell :(.

hahaha I even seen him asking for a job for promoting the cards. You've got me worried :D. I bet his card was cherry picked by his employers for this very purpose. It's all becoming very clear now!.

You'll give LtMatt a big cranium with your second paragraph. He'll be thinking "OCUK is NOTHING, I repeat NOTHING without me!!!!". You do have a point, he adds colour to our spitting image (tv series) John Major grey forum.

I meant he'll be an empty shell not the forums!

The forums would be a much better place without his propaganda!!! ;) :D
