How come 680 price increase from £360 to £400

Gibbo won't wait for an item to run out of stock before buying more. He is setting prices based on the latest buy price, stock availability and demand. Gibbo is the most proactive guy that I've ever met in this industry and that's the reason that he gets all the good deals.

Scottie your msi 7970 oc is the greatest card ever. I promote it any chance i get and i even have a skirt wearing assistant in PGI who also helps me promote it. (sadly he's male and Scottish :()

Any chance of getting a job as a sales rep? ;)

I've convinced many ocuk'ers to buy it, some of them even bought it just to shut me up. :D

OcUK are frequently less than cheap with some products compared to other sites.

However, channel prices or volumes for NVIDIA cards do fluctuate. I assume this reflects that.

NVIDIA cards aren't getting any cheaper because they STILL have very poor yields. Hence why a slightly overclocked 7870xt (****** can rival a 670 which is typically £80-120 more expensive (considerably more if you account for games).

Same problem with the Titan ... whilst NVIDIA are most definitely price gouging (particularly in European markets), their yields remain ****. If they were able to produce enough of these cheaply enough, you can bet they'd be very keen to price it more reasonably, as it'd allow them to take back a big chunk of market share from AMD, which they've been losing hand over fist.

** The discussion of pricing other than OcUK is strictly prohibited - Please read FAQs regarding rules **

Having said that, though ... I bet we see the Titan at $700-750 in the US by year end, unless they make no progress at all on yields.

Problem is that it may not be remotely decent value then, either. As by the end of this year or early next AMD will most likely have something as fast or nearly as fast which they can produce far more of at a lower cost, and consequently price much lower whilst retaining good margins.

If I were NVIDIA, I wouldn't launch another line of cards until they can massively improve yields. It really doesn't matter how fast (or slow) their cards are at the moment, they're just priced out of the market and only sell what they produce because they're producing so little, relatively speaking.

nope that'll be because they are no longer being made and there is no more stock anywhere. :( (also 8 pack wants them all for himself which doesn't help :p)

Ahh I didn't realise they had stopped making them, anything to do with the failure rates? As they were quite good sellers.

Right, I'm off to get some scans of my passport to prove my ethnicity  :p

And if matt's getting a cut of the action we come as a package deal, so you get me as a bonus, think of it as the MSI Grenade I got with my Lightning last year

Even taking into account the $ change, its not proportional.

Whatever the case, the GTX680/GTX670 are well overpriced compared to the 7970/7950. Very frustrating as i prefer nvidia due to my personal opinion about drivers, but the prices are ridiculous. A slower product at a significantly higher price without any decent games. Just crazy. Need people to stop buying so nvidia can get realistic.

I would happily buy a gtx680 over a 7970 if it was the same price even though i would be getting the slower card. I would trade off the lesser performance for (IMO) better drivers. But right now theres only really one choice of card.

I bet you AMD's (%) margin on the 7950 and 7970 are higher than NVIDIA's on the 670 and 680, even despite the considerably higher price and 'free' games.

NVIDIA could lower prices a little bit and still turn a profit on them, but why would they? They can't produce enough of them at sufficiently high yields to take back market share from AMD, so why wouldn't they price them as high as they possibly can whilst still selling them and not poisoning their reputation too much?

This will only change when (if) NVIDIA actually manage to design another chip (or chip family) that has competitive yields.

Doubt there be Titans @ around £700 as that's RRP excl Vat price! Have looked but that google thing returns too much rubbish these days .. If you have a Titan pre-order at near RRP then get it, play with it, bench it and flog it when USD gets even stronger

Does Nividia align more with USD than AMD ? £200+vat for 7950 Twin Fozrs with the games seems quite good to me tbh ..

Its all George Osbourne's fault...

Vote with your wallets though as Nvidia/AMD overcharge for thier cards anyways imo.If people stop buying they will have to get real.

Everyone is skint due to the recession yet nvidia still have great profits and wont drop prices. It just smells of corporate greed and i wont be buying anything until they get real.

Not to mention your new £399 card is worth half its value in 13 months or so.How can that be right? It just shows how much profit they make on each card.

Do you have any links for sources of any if this, because the gk104 core (295mm²) is actually smaller than the Tahiti core (365 mm²) so it should be easier and cheaper to produce.

Economics not your strong point, I see ...

Economics and George Osbourne in the same post  (yes I know, in a quote but it's still hilarious to see them together).

The only British politician that I truly respect is Caroline Lucas (Green) ... but it's always funny to see that the people with the least clue about economics are almost always the first to accuse Osbourne of not knowing how to run the economy. May not be the case with you, but almost always is.

Nah, he didn't cause the recession, he's just struggling to fix it

You obviously have no grasp of the true cost of each GPU. The development of the new GPU's includes new technology research, new manufacturing processes, extensive prototyping and testing and that's before they go to manufacturer with the new process and have a 70% failure rate. Even then you have to add in the cost of RMA, marketing & those game bundles that we are so fond of.

If people stop buying one of two things will happen:
1) a price war will start and one company will lose and go bust, which will end competition and slow development rate and as evident from when Nvidia were so far ahead with 6000/7000 series.
2) both companies realise the futility of war and both slow their development rate and the market will stagnate

Either way, console gaming gets a massive boost, PC focused game development slows considerably and we end up playing nothing but console ports

It just smells of corporate greed and i wont be buying anything until they get real.
it's not, but each to their own I suppose. If you want the latest & greatest you have to pay for it, otherwise you can buy old stock/used (just like cars really)

Not to mention your new £399 card is worth half its value in 13 months or so. How can that be right?
I revisit my point about cars and add in mobile phones for added benefit
